I marked locations A,B,C,D,and E on this map ==>
www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=5472
for reference.
Previous posts have commented on Point Walter's (ref A) pros and cons. Has anyone tried further east along the Swan from Pt Walter near Burke Drive (ref B,C) and Melville Beach Road (ref D,E) ?
Are there similar hazards ("sharps") or things to watch out for apart from the jellys?
With these NW winds I think they'd be great locations.
I haven't tried B,C or D.
I think D is where the windsurfers hang out.
Melville beach is good in a NW, can be a bit on shore though. If the wind is favorable this arvo I might give it a go.
Mate, spot E is the place to go in summer ( or in the seabreeze atleast) spot a/b/c are good in the easterly or Norwesterly breezes during winter time A has more rocks ( lots of bombies near the jetty ) than b/c but better launch,. B/C has terrible launch ie no beach at all, trees ad long grass. D is gusty and usually for the windsurfers only . E has a tiny long launch beach and not many if any underwater nasties that i can think of.
C and D are in the Swan Estuary Marine Park. Same deal as peli point. go there if you wanna get kiting a bad rap.
Sandy, there are way better places to kite a NW other than the river.
At best the river is gusty with limited safe places to launch/land, especially unassisted on storm tides.
Have look here http://waksa.org.au.86.aspwebhosting.com.au/locations_list.aspx
The "Home" page also gives a suggestion of the best places to kite at any given time (just below the local weather info).
