I realise this is the kitesurfing forum, but figure many of you surf, and much more traffic here than on the surfing forum ...

Limited options out of the West Coast I know, but ...

Any ideas/suggestions for a surfing holiday with wife and small kids (ie., inc baby)

As I have already had my trip to Indo, needs to suit the following enforced criteria:

- not too far
- cheap
- good hotel/resort
- shopping (or I am guessing that is a requirement)

I know that Bali fits the bill, but wife not keen to go there ...

Cheers

Hey There,

Check around for some specials to Hudhuranfushi in the maldives. A little bit more expensive than bali but perfect for familys and very nice. Went there about 4 yrs ago with my partner and she reckons its one of the best holidays shes been on. I got to surf averyday with no complaints.

You can surf outfront with a big deck for the family to relax and watch. They have boats that go out to other breaks a few times a day for about 3 hrs as well. A great sandy lagoon on otherside of island for swimming.

Is a bit more but im sure the missus will love it.

Sri Lanka is a good option. I just went there with the girl and she loved it. I'm pretty sure you can pick up return flights for mid $700 from perth. Beachside accom from under $10aus with better deals out of euro holidays. Head to Aragum Bay or Unawatuna (waves at either depending on time of year). I just use a private driver or tuk tuk to get around.

I just got back from a holiday on Plantation Island in Fiji, not too expensive, heaps for the wife and kids to do, and Wilkes passage and Cloud break only a short boat ride away every day. There was no aggro there at all, everyone was really chilled out, We got chased off Cloudbreak though, well not really, just asked to move on after a couple of hours by a big guy on a jetski.
In the afternoon the trades came up and there is some great kiting to be done on a sandbar bout one kilometer in front of the resort, gotta love Fiji.

Friend of mine is going on a surfing holiday to Lombok (Indo) with his wife. Good waves, cheap, check it out.

What was the deal with being asked to move on ? were tow surfers going out for a session ?

The resort has exclusive rights to the break and have had for a considerable time though this could possibly change

Not to mention the average Australian can not even stay at Tavarua.. It is leased by the yanks and they keep it yank exclusive... Namotu is open to all who can afford 5k a week.. The breaks there are also exclusive to island residents but you can surf it before 8 am the just slide on over to wilkes.
