Here is an interesting read regarding strut-less kites
I know its been thrashed out here before but the comment comparing batten less windsurfing sails to battened caught my attention!
Seems strut-less kite are low wind weapons only??

Ok its a bit of a read - but an interesting one!!
Cheers Lambie!!
Interesting that each year we seem to get another "amazing" adaption on the LEI kite. Each year they turn a bit faster and have better bottom, we joked the other day at work, wondering why they are not flying in zero wind if they have progressively better low end each year?
I'd be curious to fly one, but am pretty sure from reading all the hype and marketing blurb, that they will be as big a flop as their sails are floppy. ![]()

This is where I'd disagree. This is slightly different from the typical adaptations of the bow, it's more in line with the ultra flat bows. Every year, people say the standard design of kites (Switchblade/Rebel/etc) turn faster and have bigger range but new designs like this kite do legitimately have better bottom end, the question is whether they survive because of where they sacrifice performance. As an example, the ultra flat kites had better low end, great jumping and good hang time but were extremely slow turning which was horrible.
These strutless kites have fast turning and better low end, the question now is what sort of sacrifice does it take to make this happen? (if any)
the current kiteworld issue has a 2 page article on strutless kites, from naish, airush, and boardriders maui, low end is where they excel at 12knts the air rush apparently gets too powerfull , to be overpowered at 12knts gets my vote
Yep if low end is ya thing with fast turning, then these could be an option. Not sure if low end is an issue for you cauncy, you lucky wancer.
airush always seem to come out with new concepts for kiteboarding .They do this so well. I will only be a matter of time they get the dynamics right.
Agreed I am big fan of Airush and their innovation even from the early days. They went a bit ho hum after 2007..then the varial, then last two years have really hit their straps again.
What you seem to be forgetting is that Naish and Airush only have one size!! BRM have so many sizes its not funny!from 17m to as small as 5.5m I think. So they have a kite for all conditions. I've seen the 8m BRM out when guys were out on 10m Cabrinha SB and the BRM going higher upwind and faster. I didn't see any set backs. Turned super quick too as they twist more. Try one before you knock it.
No set backs depends on your definition of what you are looking for in a kite. Its the answer for some but not the answer overall. To think that is naive.
