Just watching some trends.
Is it time for a new flat water freestyle competition category? Strapless freestyle. What do you think, Rowdy?
What an awesome idea haha (rowdys sarcasm indicator).
Can you imagine Rowdy and Leo Loro both going on about how legit and progressive they are.
Think I'd rather see and old school boosting comp
If people want to do it then they need to get together and push it. I don't see a problem with it, it would be cool to have rails and a kicker included as well.
p.s. @IanR remind me of a time where I told everyone how "legit and progressive" I am... By your own standards you must be an even legiterer and progressiverer rider to judge people on such an aspect
. Maybe you will be having arguments with Sebol at the comp
.
@ Rowdy. BwaHaha...heehee
Mighty quick on the defensive there Alexander, your not reading my posts literally. Your seeing way more in them than there is.
Maybe stop doing "Tik" when your in Cape Town
More likely Sebol and I would be sharing a couple of drinks while you and Leo punch on. We both think your a McTool
Great work for your sponsors by the way you have just guaranteed I'll never buy a Ozone Kite or Axis board
Everyone have a look when this topic was started 1/4/2015 at 9.56am thats in April fools time frame.![]()

Unlike you I don't have issues with anyone, I've actually met Leo and know what some people think of him, that however wouldn't stop me having a session and a beer with him afterwards. He does actually love kiteboarding, which is the important part.
Amazing how you think people are "McTools" but come across as the biggest tool yourself, constantly. You know someone is full of crap when they can't even put their name behind what they say.
p.s.
I'm simply crying that you wont buy any gear because of your own issues, hopefully you buy nothing at all so there's one less idiot on the water.
Ha ha Rowdy you really do think you know everything
I find it so much fun to work you up, your so predictable
Maybe you should explain to TerryMcTool the oz importer for Ozone about putting there name behind what they say.

It amuses me most that you think I'm "worked up", I love it, owning broken records like you over and over is a fun way to kill some free time.
The only predictable person here is you along with the other anonymous half-assed trolls, you've never thought of an original troll in your life and to top it off you can't even spell properly
. I can see why you would remain anonymous.
I assume you mean "their name" right? I almost can't even understand what you're saying because you're that illiterate... I actually know Terry quite well, I don't need to explain to him anything.
Does this really have to be a thing every single thread now? People making personal attacks in every thread with the same moronic jokes/trolls each time? We get that you have issues with Rowdy or Leo or whoever else stole your tampons but can you please stop clogging up every single thread with your crud.
it's the same thing everytime. You make some personal attack, Rowdy owns you a few times over and then you do the same thing in the next thread. What is this ever going to achieve? Obviously Rowdy doesn't really seem phased by it and you are never going to beat him because even if you are right you have absolutely no credibility at all. It would be like writing a Uni essay with no references and expecting to score higher than someone with a couple of pages of references to support their arguments.
We all know Rowdy likes to stir things up, honestly he would probably be better off if he didn't but then again it would also be less amusing for the rest of us. If he really affects you this much I think you've got a problem. The mods around here should start deleting all this dribble.
By strapless freestyle are you talking about surfboards or wake skates. Idk if theres enough people that take strapless freestyle seriously in Aus, especially to start a comp. Good idea though and would make a new pathway for the sport.

I see guys like Leo and Richie doing really technical things unstrapped on surfboards and surf-like boards on flat water. What they do doesn't really fit into any particular competition category. All I know is that it is really difficult and deserves a category all its own.
Take this guy for example
Rich has been killing it for years.
All round good guy and cat like balance on the water.
Thanks Kit33r and Rowdy for the props! (I'm assuming you're talking about me not Sir Richie Branson)
Strapless comp would be fun but not sure there is enough interest by itself to get a comp going on its own and on flat water?? id prefer the waves. Maybe next years wave Nat's there could be a separate event for aerial tricks. Maybe they could change the usual wave comp rules of having to take off and land on the wave face- of course it is what everyone prefers to do but wind and wave angles don't always allow it.
And IanR, if you'd like to try my Ozone kite or Axis board I may let you have a go!!
Thanx for the maybe offer Rich.
You know I'm interested in the new axis board you're riding.
But I think the last time we tried any of each others gear was when you and your wife borrowed my trainer kite many years ago.
You have always been a great ambassador for what ever gear you ride and the sport in general.
For years people where not open minded enough to give you the props you deserve for the creativite way you rode a Skim boards at Mambo
Surely if they where to run a strapless freestyle comp the rules would have to be redefined. My question would be how would you deal with all the different types of boards people ride strapless, Skimboards, Wakeskates, Surfboards and that thing that KIT33R is riding, which is almost an amalgamation of all three
Thanks Kit33r and Rowdy for the props! (I'm assuming you're talking about me not Sir Richie Branson)

Yeah I meant Branson, sorry dude...
I think the future is events in waves for sure, that combined with an event or two on flat water with a small kicker and a rail. It could be a best of 2 or 3 events in different locations/ conditions. I think people are interested, but it would only be a small thing, just for the riders, not for the glory.
Judging a wave event with jumps on the way out is pretty intensive, I think you really need about 10 judges to make a professional level comp with those rules, the Dahlka World Tour wave event had 6 and I don't think it really worked properly. That being said if we were just doing a small scale thing and people didn't care so much I'm sure we could make it work with only a few judges, I think we would have to limit the number of people in heats to 2 though. This is a different thing to what we are talking about here though right? I mean that is focusing on riding waves, where we want to focus on progressing riding strapless and doing all sorts of stuff? right?
Different boards are definitely going to make things harder I think, for example doing a high air on a wakeskate with no grab is a much different thing to doing it on a light surfboard into the wind... then throw Rich on his Skimboard in the mix and you have a pretty hard thing to try and judge haha. Maybe it would be better to just have the whole thing as a fun expression session type thing with time slots allocated for different riders, then afterwards give out awards for different things people achieved. That's a good way to progress things I think.

airton organised and ran a comp with redbull.
was call UNFASTENED.
exactly what you are thinking
Thanks JBFletch. Not many unstrapped freestylers in Sydney. Sure is a lot of fun especially when the wind is marginal. The Shinnster has made trying tricks in 12-18 knots a whole lot of fun.
These guys just make it look too easy !
Ive spent hours trying to do the simplest stuff and its only a matter of time before a get a fin where I don't want it ![]()

Not really what I was thinking. I'm thinking of something with all types of different craft and possibly a round with kickers and sliders as well to make it more interesting.
People will have to get surfboards with slider bases and retractable fins
. What you think Rich? haha.
Just reading through the interview on Freedom Kitemag site about Keahi winning the first round of the VKWC in Dahkla, he says they are adding an "air" component to the judges scoring criteria (still being refined)
www.freedomkitemag.com/keahi-takes-out-world-tour-first-stop/
The is also a great section on hooked Vs unhooked, where he says he actually prefer to ride hooked most of the time and elaborates significantly about why.
I also like the idea of a free choice in strapless board style comp
But I think if you choose the right location with the right winds you don't need to put obstacles in the water
You can use waves as kickers and slide the crest of almost breaking waves (as I've seen rich do may times)
Oh my god,
You remembered my name, I have been endorsed by a legend ![]()

I am so happy I could cry but it wouldn't look legit so I won't.
Instead I will dwell in my miserable life while waiting for the next episode of your journey.
I can't wait to see you pull the 2880 degree flicky flick.
PS: could you kite nude in your next vid (return to nature, raw state, that has to be legit) or maybe even better an instructional video "learn to kite the legit way" with the obligatory 35 minutes shot of yourself doing warm ups in front of a full scale mirror.
Thanks for bringing me into your argument with Ian, I realise that being a legend is not easy, despite your legion of green thumbing fans, it must be really hard to realise that not everyone adheres to your own style of over inflated ego.
I can't wait for the new season and I am sure that you will give me a lot more material to laugh at.
Keep flicking (maybe try a polo shirt, that would look wicked).
Yours truly,
a devoted fan![]()
