Just caught some of the nor-west action today at Cottesloe with great fun right handers.
Didn't see much of it as my bridal snapped at the pulley. I tried to swim it in on the leash before deciding I wasn't going to make it to the beach before the kite hit Dutchies groyne. So out I swam pulling the kite out to sea into the pretty sizeable waves at Dutch out - got slammed enough to release the leash (preferable to the lines gradually tangling my legs and arms). I released the kite as it was dead on hitting the end of the groyne. Thankfully a strong southerly current swept it pass ... very close. It washed in unharmed to the beach, thanks Simon for grabbing it.
Turns out the pully has worn a line on the bridal (it was stiff with sand - will be thinking about brass sliders). Pulley is intact and I have a spare line (see pic). I can't work out how to thread the line (with pre-stitched knots) into the pulley. The pulley is from Ronstan and comes from an RRD Obsession 2009. Any suggestions![]()
Mate,
This pulley has had the dyneema line spliced into it. Splicing is an easy process and can be done @ home with makeshift tools that you can make yourself. No need to buy expensive FIDs to use to splice the line.
Search under Splicing ropes and lines and you can get instructions on how to do this. You will need to anchor the spliced line by either hand stiching it with heavy duty polyester thread or hand stich with dental floss. A little practice and you can have it looking just like the real thing.
hint : knitting needles in the right size make a fantactic FID.
Crikey- not a good day for your lines to snap, hitting 30 knots. - This shot is from today at Cottesloe. Dunno if I made it onto the news- was on a blue/black bandit.
