The season ends on the last day of Sept but in there off seaons they still have wind about 4-5 days a week. Sri Lanka is a windy place so there will be wind. You need to stay close to Kapalady Lagoon though which is in Kalpitya.
If you need any info let me know as i go there every year and have a school there.

Most common Kite size is 9m but i used a 7m and 11m a few days. I just got back last monday and was there for 40days! Wish i could stay longer.

If you need any info call me on 0414724189

Oh also if the wind drops off, it's stronger on the islands so i can put you in touch with a guy that can give you a good deal on a day trip.

I worked at a kite camp next to Kapalladi lagoon May - Sept 2011.

Most consistent wind I have experienced anywhere.

I suggest you plan with an established kite camp as they have the infrastructure contacts to make life easier from when you get off the plane, getting to Kapalladi, good food etc. Sri Lanka is a third world country with a lot of people.

There are a couple of good operators to choose and defjnitely one to avoid. I am happy to give you my personal recommendation if you message me.

Cheers

hey guys ive just came back from a month in sri lanka and it was epic to say the least. even though it was there off season i had wind every day apart from 3 for the whole month and that was really a minimum of 14 knots. kalpitiya lagoon is unreal so big open and flat water with the option of the sea just a walk across the beach. the lagoon is unreal for beginners due to being so flat people are learning so quick. the camp i stayed at was pretty cool you could upwind (4km) to the lagoon and same when finished downwind to camp. i met some really cool people here and will definately be returning in septmeber when i hear the wind is even better. when i booked they told me the wind is not guaranteed but telling me septmeber near enough in 24hours consistent wind. i stayed at a camp called kitesurfing lanka really cool camp with few accomidation options check them out :)

Hello, I m leo the owner of kitesurfinglanka.
Have you heard that there is great wind in Sri Lanka between May and October and between december and february ?

Check out www.kitesurfinglanka.com/ or just visit us in North West Sri Lanka!!

We offer kite lessons, rental, kite safaris and trips, accommodation, great food and a chilled out ambience.

There is a choice of where to kite, there are lagoons- small, big and enormous. There is miles of coastline with shore break to explore, allowing a choice of long downwinders, flat water or ocean- you choose. We do kite trips to perfect spots.

We offer kite lessons with our experienced and friendly IKO qualified instructors. We have a perfect spot for teaching, in a safe lagoon with waist deep water, we use good quality equipment and have a safety boat.

The trade wind blows nicely from May till October, last season there was just 5 days of no wind in 5 months... check out the statistics here www.windguru.cz/fr/historie.php? ... &model=gfs

We offer a range of accommodation in our camps and our catering team provides great food served in a buffet style so you will not go hungry after a day of kiting.

In Sri Lanka you can surely find wind in September. The traders wind season last still end of September , and if you are lucky the winds may even last till mid Oct. And the second season of wind starts somewhere aournd Mid December. Perfect for euorpeans to get away from teir freaking winter :-)

There are few cool accomadations already up in Kalpitiya - Sri Lanka and depending on your tase you need to chose the right accomadation for you.
- think about the price
- about how much party you want
- how noisy can it get or how quiet do you want it
- how many minutes a day do you want to be riding around to get to the water, there are only few places who has direct access to the Kalpitiya main Lagoon and to the small lagoon of Kalpitiya. So you need to know this before you book, otherwise you could end up travelling to the main lagoon every day instead of hanging around in your hammock and to wait untill wind is there to go to the beach. If you chosse an accomadation right by one of the lagoons, you are more flexible, but those accoamadations might not be as busy as some of the other capms.
- distnace to the vilalge centre, to buy few stuff, maybe to go to the ATM, or even just to experience the local way of life.
There are enough offers to fit anyones budget too.
If you need more infos do drop me a PN or a mail.

Hang loose
