Hi!
I am from Argentina and I will travel to Australia on december 2015, my plan is to stay about an year there.I am still learning the thing so I would like you to recommend me some windy flat spots where preferently not be eaten by sharks, jellyfish or crocs, or at least, places where possibilities are at least lower than others.
Is there any place near Sidney to kite?
Thanks in advance!
Diego!
Don't worry about the sharks, there haven't been any attacks this week.
It's only Wednesday though!

Thanks ! what about sharks over there?
How many do you want?
HAH! So good.
In all seriousness, don't worry about the sharks, they're always around. Worry about being safe out there and not hurting yourself while kiting. Much greater chance of that happening.
I love the sharks, they do a good job of keeping the plebs out of the water and only the elite remain....![]()
though the big crocs are moving into our warmer waters now and keeping the shark numbers down.
You should be alright. It's best not to fall into the water though.
Try and avoid splashing too much.
Oh and bring a long sleeved wetsuit to protect you from irukandji jellyfish. But don't leave it lying around in case a red back spider climbs into it.
Red backs are drop bears favourite food.
Che hay muchos buenos lugares en Western Australia - Safety Bay por ejemplo.
Tiburones hay de todos partes - pero q no te preoccupies de esto.
Suerte y dejame saber si vengas aqui.

Nah there's still plenty of sharks in Safety bay, dude was eaten there a few years back. Don't think they found much left of him either.

The Sharks don't always eat people
Come up to Noosa in Queensland ,we have a good conditions with shallow flat warm water ,no crocs and hopefully wind
Go to Shark Bay WA, 30-40 knots and gusty many days, like every day.........you'll love it....it's too kn windy even for the sharks.
Avoid Perth!!
Big (white pointer) sharks everywhere!
Sharks always closing the beaches, violent meth heads (drug addicts) rob tourists. The remainder of people are aggressive, unfriendly and arrogant. Not to mention people don't know how to drive a car!
It's overly expensive, boring and the kite spots are VERY crowded. They don't call it "Dullsville" for no reason! I only live here for work, as do most of the population.
If you have to come to Perth, Melville (in the river) is the best beginner spot while still close to the city.. And no sharks!! (well, no big ones)
As bjw pointed out. Botany Bay in general, Dolls point to be specific, is probably the best place to go as a beginner. In terms of hazards I'd say worry the most about launching and landing your kite (and watching out for other people doing the same), staying away from fixed obstacles (such as rock groins, boat markers, trees etc.) and overall kite safety (not going too close to other people and not getting dragged too far down wind). Sharks, crocs, jellys, octopus, crabs, jetskis and other less intelligent marine life are not a major concern. They don't bother you if you don't bother them. And of course, don't go body dragging after your board for 30 minutes straight. Go back to the beach and have someone else fetch your board. You don't want to go around looking like shark bait for too long =)
Hmmmmm, you could try Pinnaroo Point WA. Great spot, not too crowded, super friendly locals and all amenities close by e.g. toilets parking area.
Apparently a Google search will turn up further interesting facts on this popular location.
Just looking at the the forecast for tomorrow, NSW Metro says southerly 20knot building over the afternoon to SSE (22knots). I've got two good sessions (one old bar, one dolls point) under my belt where I feel like i've got on top of basic riding, even a couple of turns not necessarily staying upwind.
Have heard kurnell goes ok in a southerly. Any one able to offer some advice here?
Bretto74: Not sure if you were serious or not. But how do you get that Kurnell would be working in a southerly? It's straight offshore, not recommended for anyone, regardless of level (plus wind comes over land = gusty). Check the map: www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1LA3B1H3pr16pm9y2fVsBWDeL9C8&ie=UTF8&hl=en&source=embed&msa=0&ll=-31.989442,150.79834&spn=8.939741,14.0625&z=6
Southerly would work in Dolls, 1st car park (if it has a bit of east in it), Cronulla (waves, watch out). Or any other beach on the map where you're allowed to kite and which is south or south east facing.
Also, if you can't stay upwind make sure you walk upwind of any obstacles, open water area etc. before you start so you have a good bit of distance to drift before anything bad happens. I saw a guy getting in the water only 10m upwind of a rock groin the other day, ended up almost getting smashed on the rocks. So make sure to walk upwind first.
