Hi Guys !
A friend of mine would like to break the current speed record held by Rod Douglas in Luderitz (Namibia) last year. The record is actually 55.65 knots.
My friend was one of the participant in Luderitz (he went over the 54 knots !) and is now looking for a spot in Australia, safe and windy enough so that he could step up to this challenge. I guess he is looking for dead flat water and a solid 40/45+ knots.
He told me about Sandy Point in Victoria but I have never been there.
Would you know any spots that could meet these requirements? Happy to have a chat if needed !
Thanks heaps for your help.
Chris
Sandy point in SSW would have to be the best I know of. Just dont stack with a couple of speed sailboarders coming down the run behind you
Thanks heaps guys !
I would need to check your spots more in details (maybe not near Brisbane :-)).
I would like to share with you some links that the BOM just sent me.
The average wind speed maps in Australia is available online at http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/climate_averages/wind-velocity/, whilst wind roses for selected locations are available at www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/wind/selection_map.shtml.
(Guys, the unit is km/h).
Still looking for the perfect spot in Oz for speed but thanks to you, I am on the right track !
Any other ideas, feel free to share !
Ta.

Henty river mouth, west coast of tasmania. Windsurfers have occassionally mentioned it in these forums, and we certainly get wind down here.
