Saturday's forecast is looking good.
KISS (keep it simple stupid) Social Course Racing is on again - same deal as last year www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15021&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=pelican%2Cpoint%2Crace
It's not a serious race. No entry fees. No officials. Turn up and kite on the day if you want. You should be a WAKSA member to ensure you are insured.
Half the people din't bother coming to the briefing last year so we'll make it even simplier: Start @ 5:30pm precisely Sat 30 Dec - for official time ring 1194.
Start - standing in the shallows or already riding - your choice as long as you stay behind (East) the start line and keep clear of each other.
Course: Peli Point to Lucky Bay using existing markers.
Start/finish line anywhere NE of a line between the SE corner of carpark and the red channel marker: www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=1298
Kite upwind across to Melville, port (left) tack around the first yellow moooring bouy you come across (unless Melville guys identify another option) @ SE end of beach approx 100m out - then return to the finish. I recommend you do a recon if you're not sure.
Unless we can get a volunteer, keep your own time and publish on this post later (if you wish) - Integrity required [}:)]
Normal right of way rules apply but keep clear of all other water users.
Particpate at your own risk. No safety craft or other support will be provided.
Make sure all harness' are good. No room for gear failure.
More serious than the sydney to hobart
hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehhe
sounds like fun..![]()

I dont think Poor Rellie will be allowed to enter
Mr Young says that integrity is required
I'm hoping that the Melville crew will finally get their act together and we can keep running these social KISS races every 2nd weekend or so, taking it in turns to set a course.
I know I'm not going through the same pain as last year. Going to go one loop only again, and in cruise mode.
My memories from last time are: dodging yachts and kiters, doing squats for what seemed like hours....my knees just can't take even one lap at pace, but we'll see. Oh yea.... and watching the little kite mare at the start was interesting....not. But it was a hoot. See yas on the water.
Hey Rollo, I haven't got a clue where the "bricklanding A & B" are.
Just try and follow Ian and the other speedsters and you will see where they turn.........and if you are leading, pick the closest buoy![]()
The first mooring bouy @ Melville you come to - I also wouldn't have a clue what A&B are. It had a power boat moored on it on Wednesday - if it's still there on Saturday then just go around it. I'm pretty sure it's adjacent to intersection of N end of Melville Beach Rd and Dee Rd.
Nick it would be great to see you out there just for a cruise - that's the idea - nothing serious, just a bit of a challenge and some fun with mates ![]()
For the folk who are are not familar with the river layout, done up a little map for ya's based on Ian's description.
PS: No guarantee that the bouy is there!
PSS: There are a few National titles going on the river at the moment, dont be the guy/girl responsible for some bunny losing his chance of winning the title!

Is Melville to Pt Walter & back possible on a S/W wind? Or is the wind far too messy around Pt. Walter?
why would you want to go that far, ian would have nothing to do at the finish line if he had to wait that long for eh rest of us to get back.
Ian, I'll be out there prob. on 9m Cab. with hat. Going to be nackered even more as I'll be out in the morning somewhere too........love this wind.
Yesterday there was a big white Riviera power boat on the mooring - can't miss it.
I got upwind to it in 15 mins from Peli Pt - 4 min 30 sec downwind sprint back.
Have fun all
Have to do the righty at home so will have to miss out
Still at least my daughter knows who i am again
Ian, myself and one other guy. Conditions were easier than last year, piece of cake...27 min. for me....5 down and 22 up. It was good.
You must have had a rocken time Ian...I started 4 min. before you and you easily beat me to the boat........and man were you flying downwind. Good to see you Ian, now I'm nackered.
That was good! ![]()
I have never focussed so much going upwind! A good exercise!
It took me...errr... I did not have my watch! Oh!, That's why I missed the start!
Anyway, after working hard in the gusty wind, avoiding boats and trying not to taste too many jellyfish, I managed to turn around this expensive white boat (without scratching it!).
How quick was the downwind return past this point!
Anyway, joining those two famous Perth spots was a good experience... A relaxed fun 'race'. Am ready for bed now
...
Cheers,
Fred![]()
That was fun! Ian and gruezi kicked my butt and I too didn't have a watch, atleast not one with that much time! LOL...![]()
p.s. I mean't Melville to Pt Walter NOT peli to Pt Walter! LOL THey did that race last year from Melville.
Is Melville to Pt Walter & back possible on a S/W wind? Or is the wind far too messy around Pt. Walter?
Thanks for organising it Ian! Next year I'm getting a jet ski to give you a run for your money! ![]()
My timekeeper clocked me at 17 minutes. Probably 13 up 4 down. I didn't dare boost on the way downwind with Ian's kite growing larger by the second!
Thanks for organising the event Ian. It was fun.![]()
I was 16 min upwind + 3 min downwind. Well done AP - and everyone else who gave it a go.
Let's do it again - Melville boys over to you!
Im really dissapointed I missed this, I was down at Dunsborough (along with 'alf of Perth its seems)
When's the next one???
how about peli carpark to outer calm buoy to a mark over near majestics and back?
2-3 laps?
weekend of the 13th?
Hey been sleeping all morning kiting all arvo, just arrived in cyber world.
Yeah same course, the more gruelling the better.
Weekend of 13th sounds good tho i think a few of our mob are heading off.
