Bit off-topic but I'll spend a weekend at Perisher. Just wanted to ask where are the appropriate spots for flying a kite over there? Are these places easy to find (never been there before) or does it involve some hiking?

You can snow kite pretty close to Persiher's ski resort base in the green area I circled
Winds must be something between S and E. Honestly it's not the best area wind quality wise and space wise but if you're really keen you can mock around a little if your expectations aren't too high, definitely a good spot for learning, nice and flat.
There is heaps of terrain in Perisher's backcountry which I've explored by hiking with my snowboard but wasn't really skilled enough to kite there at the time (can be pretty dangerous to snow kite by yourself far away from civilization...) North of Guthega (up the snowy river) has great potential.
There is good snow kiting at the top of Thredbo as well (probably more for experienced snow kiters) and I think around Charlotte's pass as well.
Looks like the snow coverage is pretty good right now, just don't expect much in terms of winds and don't venture too far either and stay away from obvious things like obstacles and people.

i'd agree with the above post - this would be the easiest location I can think of too... Ive never kited there but used to work at Perisher and Charlottes .
Better spots are all further away and would involve some mucking about..
If you can get over to Charlottes and then up to the top of the Summit the area over the back is amazing! Acres of rolling hills without trees and basically the top of the range so clean wind..

That is the worst spot you can think of kiting. The wind is crap, it's absolutely tiny, and you've got a road right next to you and people on another side. If there's an accident here it could ruin access for all kiters in the national park.
There's much better places to go but they do involve a bit of walking. There's heaps of information and maps on the FB group called Kosi Kiters. You should always go with someone else and there's normally people posting on there where and when their going out.
