Has any body kited around kiandra? I was driving through there the other day and it looked like a pretty good set up.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Just need a big flag for no mans land down near the HV powerlines. We are looking at giving it a crack there around August 20th
Yeah there is a massive area of treeless rolling hills so no need to be any where near power lines. I think the biggest concern would be fences?, but most of them would be buried at the moment. I have never snow kited but reckon I will drive down and have a go soon . My biggest problem is picking the right conditions I,m guessing you want light to moderate winds and good visibility.
let us know how you get on. That area has to be a lot easier than treking up the top of thredbo or out back of guthega. Just park your car on the side of the road and go for it.

I notice your from act. Good luck with the snow kiting if you give it a go, also this might be a silly question (I really don't know yet) but is there kiting in act? I am passing through there in the September school holidays for a couple of nights and I'm trying to kite as many spots as possible.
Yes there are are a few places you can kite on the lakes, but the wind in spring tends to be either non existant or REALLY strong( think 5-7m weather) and very gusty. Most places have sketchy launch and landing areas and the water will be FREEZING. Sounds appealing doesn't it!. I am into waves so usually trek down the coast. But if your really keen east basin on LBG is probably your best bet in most wind directions except easterlies. Most wind will be from the west in spring.

Looked at other locations like above Karels.at Thredbo and Seamans hut.etc but Kiandra looks like a big flat snowy lake to me. Can see a sh1t storm coming from a reasonable distance too.
Put a fresh post up tonight so keeo eye on it. Will let you know how we go.

From friends that have pulled lifts and are into kitesurfing I hear they reckon there wold be around 8 days a season in Australia that would be good - seriously ????
Any blue day is calm - any blowing day is a white out - got to pick the gusty NW ahead of the next change - Sounds like you need to live on the mountain to grab 'the ' day !! I hope my assessment of the opportunities is wrong cuz I so want to have a go - but I hear the same time after time- limited days :-(

In my experience of the mountains I think your about right, I reckon you need to be johnny on the spot. I live 2 hours away so its doable as a day trip, but a long drive if you don't score.
