Could it be a case of too much downhaul in this instance?

Had this happen to a Naish bar at Southgates in Gero. The old days of flying a stunt kite on the separate handles worked a treat. Managed to fly the kite and get into the beach OK. Naish replaced the bar but Kym from Gero S&S reckoned that they wouldn't believe a bar had broken. apparently unheard of they claim. Bar was only 12 months old.....
Nice to know I'm not so special

Bar Price $700.00

Average number of sessions per year = 50 (very conservative)

5 years = 250 sessions

$700.00/250 sessions

$2.80 a session

Pretty good return on investment for that bar. Just get a new one. It's 5 years old that's a pretty good run.

We are the Core dealer for WA
We have seen this happen twice, but in both of those instances it was in massively overpowered situations where the rider had slack lined/stalled the kite, became unhooked, the kite powered back up and the very heavy 2008/2009 chicken loop assembly on the old core bar smashed into the centre hole.
In both these instances Core replaced the bar, they were however within the warranty period for one bar and just outside for the other.
We do have a naked Esp bar in stock, so you can swop all of the fittings centre line assembly the bars are about $150-175 AUD (can't remember as its 8am and I'm at home) but it will take you a while to swop all the fittings over especially the centre lines (couple of hours for the average person).
We have sensor bar 2's in stock which are compatable at about $550.

I need a small kite for high the high 20's low 30's day's and there's a 9m core in the FS section with an ESP bar.

Keen to go halves (it's advertised at $400 but has been for sale for ages with a professional repair so maybe $250 i think) as i don't need the bar?

Get an all alloy bar like the F-One Monolith bar and Id be very surprised if you couldn't use it for 10 or more years - you wont break it through normal use and abuse - now the Airlight bar of the Bandit 4's is a different beast - wouldn't touch one of them (bad, bad corrosion) but the Bandit 5 bars were anodised so no corrosion and again a full aluminium bar.

I snapped a Bandit 3 bar once - carbon fibre/glass bar - nice to use but I simply stuffed up - extreme load - my fault!

Geordieboy - for your bar to break - glass resin - it almost must have had some severe impact to start a crack in its past life ?? And then ongoing flex stress would have been slowly weakening it to the point of failure ?? That said I have no experience with Core bars which is what you were asking about but apparently no one here rides core kites??

I would hope, that despite the economic analysis outlined above, that a bar should outlast the kite and maybe 2 !!

Well - no I don't

However I think (and feel free to correct me if I ma wrong) that 5yrs may be an acceptable lifespan for a bar. It is subject to a lot of stress. EG: windsurf booms also last about that long. Being longer, they are possibly subject to even more bending moment, but I digress....

My point is, after 5 yrs it is a bit rough to post that it broke and "has this happened to anyone else....?" It sounds like you are dissing the product.

If it was 6mths, yes. 5yrs hmmmmmm......
