Something like that's the only way kitesurfing will ever get the outright speed record back.

Looks like they are using a J-foil as an outrigger. It means he is no longer limited by the size of kite so much, so he could use a 16m in 50 knots (provided he could handle it before the foil was able to take the pull).

For speed, they would probably need one that released if the foil was coming out of the water - a sort of Q/R that operates when the load drops.
