Minding my own business in 12" water...

Ray @ 12:00

Attempt evasive action...

...but not enough wing/speed...

Ray moves just before I collect it...

2 minutes later - well away from my previous encounter - yet another Ray...

Fark, I always thought that they would scoot away as you got nearer. That big fella didn't even budge. Now I am even more paranoid of falling off shallow water.

Hey Galah, where is that spot? (if its not secret of course).

My work is always pushing for me to move up to Canberra but i stick in melbourne to have access to some kiting spots.

Its interstate - not ACT. I cant name the location or the locals will have my guts for kitestrings, my hide for a harness, and feed the rest of me to a swarm of ravenous blowfish.

:-(

I dont think I'm being too cocky if I just say that its not far from Perth. :-)

We get a lot of them in whyalla just south of our normal ridding spot, did a down winder last week and we rode through this area and there were litraly 100's of them around 1m wide and we were only in shallow water, it didnt seem to bother them too much ridding over them but i think if they were a bit bigger i would have given a widder bearth. They do seem to like water that is only a foot or two deep but not less than that, lucky we ride in less than a foot of water in whyalla a lot of the time its so flat.

Use lots of sunscreen, I read somewhere that it keeps the evil rays away.
