i actually went under the water when i boosted , and come on my old volvo was a 1983 240gl with a curb weight of close to 8 tonnes :P

On the rubbish side of things and these figures are only roughly accurate, each of those shacks pays a lease to DEC of about $1,500 per year, 330 shacks, makes $495,000. You would assume that some of this money would then be spent on rubbish management, but as you can plainly see it isn't. What happens is then the shack community (WIPA) has to lobby DEC for some of that cash to spend on all the rubbish and remember the whole of Perth would be that messy if we did not have government services cleaning it up and managing it. Anyway WIPA gets allocated a tiny amount like less than 1%, so what happens is they then clean it up themselves with working bees and fund raisers to hire equipment. Could you imagine what the place would look like if it wasn't for the tip that is run by WIPA, and it's the only volunteer run tip I know of in oz.

So even though it looks messy it would be a lot worse without the shackies and these people are literally walking around picking up the mess left by those just passing through.
