If you don't mind waiting, (2 months) you could see if you can get your gear into someone's shipping container. It would be a very cheap option for you. Its not as simple as paying a freight company but if you don't mind waiting it works quite well. I shipped my Vespa in a motorcycle crate along with ski gear, sailing gear inside it and it cost me about $500 from Melbourne to London.

The other option is to buy a Kite Bag that looks like a golf bag, and fly with an airline that has a good sporting equipment policy. Malaysian is good, they count a golf bag as up to 15kg of your 20kg allowance. I flew from London to Perth with Malaysian with a twin tip and two kites, plus all bits and pieces. I also packed some clothes into the bag and took the rest carry on. The bag weighed about 25kg. The Naish Golf Bag is a good option.

On return to London I flew Qantas and they took my bag no questions asked. As long as it is less than 30kg (its too heavy after that for health and safety reasons).

Its all up to how long you plan to be in Aus for. Given that you are going at the end of the season there, you might be able to pick up some good 2007 gear for a reasonable price.

Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic time whatever you decide to do.

Mike
