Is there really any re-sale value in kites that are +5 years old even if in still good condition?
Would like to get newer gear but can't really justify the cost when my kite has nothing wrong with it.
Not really any resale value in anything any more except housing, and that is a perceived land value and a bitcoin like speculation.
everything in the market economy is built to break, so that more can be sold, based on a false promise that resources are infinite and everything can be made again.
if your kites work, replace the lines every few years and you'll be golden. If you want something better, think about why, will it make you better?

I recently sold my 13m which was 2012 for $300 no bar and lines. To be honest it was my best condition kite (not counting the 4m I bought last year).
Not much has changed in 6 years in kite design apart from different types of kites for different needs, If you are still using your kites and they suit your needs keep using them unless you want to change style.
2013 had some amazing kites (except north rebel, peace of ****). i wouldnt pay much but nothing wrong with the safety of these kites. i guess the only things you would need to watch is items that should be regularly maintained or replaced.

My bladders all started leaking on one of my f one kites , it was 6 years old and after a feeble repair attempt, I think 3 or 4 or the 11 bladders were still leaking. I use my kites all the time - made my decision easy, but they do stretch out of shape with use .
Some companies put new paint on every year , but some actually develop stuff. Particularly in the foiling / race field. But also wakestyle 6 line North bar came out in 15. Like it or not the click bar in 16/17.
Just waiting for the twinskin with reverse relaunch now. ??
I still have a 2009 Ozone Edge that I regularly kite with. Its copped a lot of abuse over the years but still going strong.
I shudder to think of the resale on that one! I dont think I could give it away.

Love the older Ozone kites, used mine till they were basically disintegrated. Would happily take it if you're giving it away!

I don't know what it is exactly.... even manufacturers only offer a 1 year warranty for bladders - must be a reason - they are basically ballons.
First time you travel and have your 6 year old kite sh1t itself thousands of miles from the nearest kits shop..... you'll say never again.

Are you serious? My 2009 ozone sport+ is easily as safe as my 2017 rebel. You need to go back a fair bit more than 5 years to find a dangerous kite.
If the lines are all out of whack, and it's been repaired by a rum-pig using a fishing hook and hay bailing twine, then that's another story.

I've got two 7m's which are my go-to kites and I will keep on flying them until the material gives up. Every so often I have to do soem valve repairs which I have mastered usign the original valves and are 10 times better than the bought replacement valves, it gives me something to do in winter. And every so often I have to make up some 5th line replacements wwhere it wears out with the bar slifing up and down.
Generally once a season I coat the canopy with UV protectant and its all good.
Anything sub 2005-2007 I agrre that you should not sell on though unless the guy knows what he is in for and has similar kites.
Too many nannies and bull poop going around.
