I also recommend gloves if you plan to land your kite and do the hand over hand method in strong wind kindly mentioned by kitehard.

Kite hard you need to try your method in strong wind...and your an instructor!

Oh, For F SAKE!
Your having a joke and it's boring me. I like to laugh at myself getting bogged on the beach and I know what happens in 50knots so I DON'T GO OUT.
You say this on your little picture...
"When its too windy for people to hang out on the beach and catch your kite.
This is the best option.
-Throw your 5th line kite. It will fall down wind. And sit in a U shape.
-Wedge your board in the sand.
-Disconnect your safety and tie the 5th line to your board, simple double hitch is enough.
-Wander down and flip your own kite over."

OK SO I'VE TAKEN YOUR BAIT... DAMMIT!

Instead of using a meat-cleaver as the kite anchor when self-landing in nuke-ing wind,
you could use......wait for it
LaunchPad (patent-pending).

Not only is LaunchPad the sickest, self-launch system on the blue planet,
but it also doubles as a self-landing anchor too.
"LaunchPad gives me confidence on those light days and the heavy days".
(product slogan).
Once again,
The kite-betty has been sacked.

This is a funny thread, gotta put in my 2cs worth.
Now in 50 knots, you wont be able to hold onto that 5th line, dont think you have actually expierienced that kind of wind,

Sure I have kited many times in winds up to 50knots.
Someone has to check if it works.

If you get caugt out and want to bring your kite down this is what works.

Make sure your bar doesnt slide too far away or it wll be uncontrollable. Tune the release kite so the strut at the the apex of your canopy is parrallel with the ground, with zero angle of attack.

It's a mechanical hold on your kite that secures both wingtips and the middle of the kite.
Try it it, you will look like you know what your doing and it wont hurt.

Myself
I think the new servo winching system, (the Mk1 wind cannon) that easily attaches to any harness is the best recovery method for self landing your kite and recovering it on the flagging line.

It is also solar powered so no annoying batteries to change.

For those of you that haven't seen it, it is the size of a safety reel leash and automatically winds in your 5th line when the big red button is pressed on the side of the unit, it is commonly used in winds up to 70 knts , which IMO is the only wind worth going out in.

oh I see, this is how to land the brand of kites you make and sell.
Why didn't you just say that? Your method works for your kites, not EVERY kite.
I'm not going to buy your kites or try anything you suggest and I only dig holes in the beach with German Machines.
Bite me.

People act as anchors for autolanding...some retards who've never kited before will offer to help and be flung about like a rag doll, or cut your lines and make off with your kite.

LOL meerkat. OH yeah By the way. I AM ABOUT TO PURCHASE A new KITE, ITS A NAISH!!!!
