Hello everyone,
I am at a point where i go upwind well and started doing some toeside and will attempt my first jumps soon. My current kite is a 12m ozone catalyst 2014 which is fine however I struggle in lower winds 13 knots while I am 83kg, which has to do with my technique as well i guess.
Since I wanted to get a 2nd kite, I have found in excellent condition a used ozone 9m c4 2014 with bar at 500 euros. What my concern is that i may not possess the necessary level for the c4. As far as I have read it's a kite for unhooking with harder relaunch etc. As an idea I really like it since I want to start with old school tricks and progress into unhook in the future but I am afraid i will "kill" the kite if I am not ready for it.
What is ur opinion?
Thank you
George
Hello everyone,

buy C & start with some loops ![]()
me2 at same stage. i think we both need to ride more, demo about 10 kites and at least have 5 great sessions with some C type kite. Then you know more what you need/want from kite.
Being at stage where are we, having kite with huge de power is great thing for progression. I would like that someone corrects me but mostly you need two C kites to cover useful/fun wind range of some all around high AR kite.
But if it's good deal, buy it why not. First session you find it useful and fun it pays off. Cheers
Thing is if it ain't for me will be hard to sell it again. For some reason seems like c kites do not have a good resale value since most ppl consider them to have been abused hard. Ur right though we need to try a few kites in order to get the feeling but if it's a kite I would end up in the future maybe I can consider it.
Do c kites have any hang time at all or they just provide explosiveness and then you land harshly for unhooked tricks? Reason I am asking if i will be able to start my jumps and progress with the c kite I will like it since sometimes I consider the catalyst to be kinda weak.
Thank you
George

C kites are fantastic at what they are built for, loops, pop and big air. Unfortunately they can be a bit annoying in other disciplines.
Boosting wise you get sold hight but not much hang time. I no on my old 7m razor, if you didn't loop or work the kite hard, it will drop you.
Have you had a look at open c kites? They still have alot of C in them but more user friendly. Probably more beneficial if you jumped on them. Best Ts is a weapon, or maybe a dice. These kites will keep getting better and better the more you progress
c4 is a gr8 kite man ... a 2014 9m with a bar is a steal at 500 euro.
the c4 isnt a hard core C like a fuel .. its not a huge setup from a Cat thou
If your are a very keen kiter then i would say buy the c4 .. you will grow into it.
The relaunch isnt as bad as a 5 line C kite , but yeah your going to have to learn that a real kite like a c4 doesnt like the heavy bar treatment you can get away with on the Cat , being heavy on the bar on a c4 will kill the power .
Plus it will have a smaller windrange than the Cat and be more likely to want to fall out of the sky at the bottom of its windrange
Uh btw george . ... your 12m at 15mph is doing very well to get you up and riding ... 13knts is 15m+ weather
Thank you all for your responses.
The truth is i thought about both kites, but the reason I thought about the c4 is the deal I found. If I were to buy a new dice or ts would cost me around 1,2k which is double the amount. As I said if it's practice that is needed I am willing to learn. However is hang time really different between let's say a c4 and a dice or ts or its minimal?
I am sure c4 will be very good however since I have not tried any c kites yet I dunno what to expect. I was reading one major issue was the depower with older c kites however since c4 has bridles it's not actually pure c if my understanding is correct. The cat actually only drove me downwind at 13 knots if I remember well.
I am planning on using the 12m from let's say 15 knots up to 21-22 (i like being a bit over) and then the 9 from 22 to 29 or so.
Thank you once more

try and keep all your kites the same. if you have a cat then get a cat for your second kite,
im running 12 rpm and 9 chaos at the moment and its not good. the kites are too different and going from one to the other all the time really is a pain in the ass.
