Well, my bubble was burst while kiting today at Shoalwater, my friend and I had all our gear nicked off the beach near the path furthest from the Penguin Island cafe this arvo. I have never had a problem there before, and dont know anyone else that has had a problem eighter.
I saw the ****ers running down the beach from the cafe end, grab our kite bags, and off over the dunes into the carpark, but was too slow getting down wind from the spit to catch them. They were 3 white kids (young adult), and drove off in a early model white commodore, tightlines can give you a partial rego, I didnt see the plates.
If I had been a bit faster I think I would have swiped them with my kite, or preferably lines.

This really put a damper on a nice session, and just wanted to warn everyone that even this last haven is no longer safe...

As a visting Victorian kiting friend says- "Perth Sux's!", it seems Perth is the least secure place in Oz to kite, which is really sad... On Perth beaches you cant trust anyone with anything it seems...

Nic

PS Cwamit- your nice bag and pump all gone...****heads, at least I had the kite out on the water so still have that...

Yep....

Seems that WA really has a problem, which is odd, i thought that you were having an employment boom with massive pay. Doesn't everyone have a job??? Therefore money too???

Well it seems the fuzz has not done or made any difference. Its time to take it into our own hands[}:)].
We need bait (kite bag, car) , someone on the water to make the illusion noone is around, someone hiding in the dunes (to confront them, no violence.......yet[}:)]). Who knows maybe a few confruntations would help. If not, confront them with the steering wheel lock.

We did kind of try this yesterday, seeing as they took the car keys: I saw the bastards cruise back thru while tightlines was calling the police and I was packing up the gear, but they saw me coming and sped off again.
Later, we settled down to have a few beers in the dunes while keeping an eye on the car, but they didnt come back again, sadly. Not sure exactly what we would have done, other than confront them and get a full licence plate number.
But tempting to have my Maasai knob-kerrie on hand next time, it has put a few thieves off in the past

It just sucks to have assholes like this ruin what should have been so much fun and stress relief...

They also got my car keys, so we sat on the beach in hiding watching my car hoping they would come back for it.
I wanted to have a quite word in their ear but no luck.
Lucky we had a cold six pack for the wait and a spare set of keys to get us home, wouldn't have wanted to leave the car there by itself for too long.

getting a visual of walking into a north retailer shop with the Qr and walking out with a teller full of cash ..a board and three new kites.

on a serious note...wasn't there a couple weeks ago three people wanted over a stabing theft thing down at brighton or scarbs? not a good idea to approach them but get as much info as you can .

I can just picture you and your QR now Cwamit,
"Go ahead make my day" or "if any of you mother&%$!@#$ so much as move".

Yes good advise about not approaching them they would be likely to pull a knife or something, I really only wanted the last three digit's of the rego, remember to keep an eye out for a white commodore VK or earlier (I Think), 1CAT???

Stolen keys was how the fkers got my cruiser
NEVER NEVER NEVER leave your car keys on the beach (or 'hidden' under the bumper lol)
There are lots of alternatives - chose one.

As I said before, leave a bottle of whiskey in the car and spike it with so much laxatives they'll need a hospital trip to prevent their brains falling out their asses. Alternatively put some harsher stuff in it and wait fo rhtem to pitch up at the emergency unit.

I have no respect for people who are too lazy to work for a living and feel they can live off others. Scum!

Ugh, Pines Estate & Kananook bogans 'ey. Damn.
Ah well, hopefully i'll be able to convince an assistant to come along and keep an eye on our gear... else just trek down to the beach with only what we need to ride.

Bummer Nic.

That is a real let down after the stoke of getting a new rig that works for you...

Stay focussed though grasshopper... you still have your kite and board so the fkrs got nothin and you still get the wind in your hair (and sand in your teeth)

Laxettes in the Bundy bottle is surely the go in future...

Hang on

Sorry to hear about that guys, little bastards should be hung with Dyneema.

I saw a great little device for sale in a kiting mag the other week - I think it may have been the online version of TheKiteboarder (don't ask me which month).

It was a small safe that fits into the tow-bar sleeve and locks with a digital pin code. If I recall it was around 60-70 USD. Someone in Aus must sell them...?

I just have a blank key cut that will open the doors (but as it has no transponder it won't start the engine or run into trouble with salt water) and keep it on me with the car-keys cunningly hidden in the vehicle.

Yeah, I have a car door key tied to my harness, but not tightlines, and I was blase as Shoalwater has been so not a problem in the past... know better now.

A knob-kerrie is a wooden stick with a big knob on the end, that the traditional Maasai initiates used to kill their lion with to be called men of the tribe- I have had to try mine out once before on a home invader- he didnt hang around for long...
but thinking that powered up kite lines may be an even more effective weapon, if you want to risk the kite?
