I dunno about strategy. I'm changing my mind every hour and with every practice session.

Smaller kite for control or big kite for more power? Twin-tip for agility, chop-hopping, or directional for wave coasting comfort?

This is such an unknown format for an event. Lets face it- not many kiters ever focus on speed. Good freestylers or waveriders have no advantage. My thinking is that anybody is in with a shot of placing well.

I reckon choosing the right gear is more important than your race skills.

We'll see tomorrow!

My strategy is gunna be to try to get from the little island to the big island before the sun goes down and with a big smile on my face
Or better still within an hour coz then my mates have promised me free bourbons at the local.
It's good to have a goal to strive for.

When overlapped, Windward kiteboard shall keep clear of a leeward kiteboard

This statement says it all...

whoever starts the lowest on the line, provided they can match the speed initially of the guys above them, should put their kite as much in the way of the guys above them as possible to stop guys above from bearing down/ stealing wind and overtaking, scream out "up", and point the rest of the fleet towards woodies to get rid of the rif raff.....

then when the top guys get sick they will attempt to pass behind and below, and the leader needs to defend his position by going down.

that's how to keep faster kiteboarders at bay with tactics.
