Guys
Just got back from a trip to Vietnam where we headed up to Mui Ne and met the guys at Storm Kiteboarding, based at the Sailing Club Resort. In my opinion if you ever think of heading across to this kiteboarding mecca I think these guys are the only crew to hook up with and stay. The resort itself is absolutely spotless - doesn't claim to be 5 star but it comes pretty close. It ranges from beachfront bures to cheaper accomodation coming back off the beach. For couples, this would have to be one of the best places to visit, especially if you have a non-kiter travelling with you. The pool area is well sheltered from the wind but your partner can still watch you kite as she's sipping on a cocktail. Food and bev prices @ the resort were comparable with the cheaper restaurants in the street, but of a better quality - you almost don't need to leave the resort at all. The guys at Storm Kiteboarding, owned by Scott, found nothing too much trouble, from arranging our transport from Saigon, to his team laying out the lines and pumping up your kites, launching and landing are all assisted by his staff. Loads of demo gear to try and just generally all round good guys.

We were there at the start of the season but still managed to kite 8 days out of 9 - wind speeds between 15-20kts - I took a 12 and a 9 Wainman and used both. Was also lucky enough to join in on a downwinder to Phan Thiet which was a highlight of the trip.
Happy to give you any info if you're thinking of heading over to 'Nam for a break. It's well worth the trip.
Thanks for the tips. We are thinking of going there in Feb which sounds like a good month to go. Which airline did you go on and how far is Mui Ne from Saigon?
Just come back from there myself and second Wilfreds opinion. Top spot with very helpful staff. Only place to stay. If you're not carrying too much gear take the train from Saigon, it's about 4.5 hrs which is about the same as via road. It's way more relaxing and there's plenty of $1 cold beers available.
Awesome to hear, headed there in 4 weeks, booked into one of the beach front bungalows.
Can't wait now!! ![]()

Hey Wilfred,
You say about the guys at storm and the sailing club resort, "In my opinion if you ever think of heading across to this kiteboarding mecca I think these guys are the only crew to hook up with and stay."
What were all the others like? I take it that you met everyone from all the other kite shops and you stayed at every other resort at least once to make an informed opinion. So go on, tell us what you did or didn't like about everyone else and all the other resorts!
I've not been on the forum for a long time and it's nice to see Wilfreds comments. There's about half a dozen or so Legit schools here in Mui Ne and thankfully were one of them. Wilfred rocked up just like any other guy with the right attitude and we gave him the respect due. I'm very grateful for the comments as we've worked very hard over the years to promote the sport as well as Mui Ne Vietnam as a serious affordable destination for kitesurfing. IMO and to answer your question there are a number of operations who too deserve a mention here, who have worked equally as hard and provide good service and create and industry so we can all live the dream.

Thanks for the info guys. Thinking of heading this direction myself sooner or later.
Hey Storm KBV,
Any tips on seasons wind direction and average knots.
Cheers,
Hey
The winds been blowing all season with one of the best trades for consistancy. 12-20 knots in the last five years, great for teaching and topping out in the 30's every week of so. Were hitting a 25 knot patch this week with good swell. We've a flat water teaching patch in front of the school as the beach moves back down towards us on it's annual migration and erodes at the top end of the bay. In short great conditions this year. Ant an the boys do great tours saying that you gotta be able to stay upwind Intermediate/advanced for a real full on epic session.
Happy days see you guys soon.
Hey Scotty and Rob ...
Was emailing Stevie (Steve & Trish) and he said that inside the reef up at Phan Ran is really really low water ... is it always like that, or was it just the day he visited unusually low?
cheers and good winds to you all there,
Buzz
