WAKSA represented WA kiters recently at a multi-departmental meeting set up by DPI - Navigational Safety.
The topic on the agenda was the area at Safety Bay known as "the pond" and surrounding waters.
Several issues & points of view were put forward by reps from City of R'ham; DEC rangers; Dept of Fisheries; the local windsurfers & the yatch club etc.
There is to be a follow-up meeting on the 5th Jan at which we - ie the kiters & poleys - will be expected to put forward some meaningful stategies to alleviate the problems we all agreed existed.
It is essential that the local kiters now come together to discuss the issue/s as a group. This includes local kiters who do not frequent 'the pond' as all surrounding areas will under consideration in future planning moves.
I suggest that we call a meeting for Sunday 4th Jan at the end of the day - say 7:00pm at the beach somewhere.
Respond here with your thoughts. Obviously this is the last day possible but Im guessing its also the most appropriate. A mailout will be sent to all waksa members but you do not have to be a waksa member to have your say at the meeting as any decisions resulting will impact on all kiters.
If you prefer you can also contact waksa privately by using the normal waksa@waksa email.
what are the existing issues? a list for the general kiting population would be useful to have a broader input from the kiting community as some of us riders from perth central go down often to ride the pond but not often enough to know what the standing frequent problems are.
