hey,
i am guna get a SLR camera and i want to get one that has a good fps rate, (at least 3-4 per sec) and can print at about A3 or bigger with good quality (14 mp or more i think)
has anyone got any recomendations of good cameras??
cheers
ewan
Hey Ewan,
It all depends on how much you are prepared to spend... Canon EOS 7D is great 18 megapixels 8fps and captures full HD movies, priced around the $2k mark (body only) Nikon D300s around the same $$ but it's also the lenses that you need to get the crisp sharpness you would want from action shots at higher frame rates... You need a fast lens like the EF70-200mm f2.8L and preferably IS (that lens will set you back $2200)...
Like I said it depends on how much you can afford...
There are a lot of other lenses that have great capabilities for what you want also.. eg. the Sigma 50-500mm is a good option, plenty of zoom there!
Check this site it is one of the cheapest and best australian owned camera dealers many of my friends have dealt with and had no problems... http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/index.htm they have waterproof housings etc. as well...
Cheers,
Dave
yeah its not a cheap hobby thats for sure.
What price range are you looking at Ewan and how do you envisage using it?
For example if will you be taking pictures from the shore you will need a good telescopic lens and perhaps a tripod, for more closeup shots, you will need a different lens again and perhaps a waterproof case for it too.
yea, thanks dave,
i think that will be a little out of my price range, im going into michaels camera's today, im looking for something less than $1000.
im looking at something called the pentax Kx or something around that kind of model

The cameras suggested are fantastic but also expensive. If you have limited funds I would suggest spending on the lens more than the camera body - I good lens can make an average body work well - the other way around isn't as good.
I would stick with Nikon or canon - think about the long term investment of the camera. If you spend money on a Nikon or canon lens now - you will be able to keep it for years - and only have to update the body as technology dictates. The canon 50D 40D will get close to that frame rate - so will the Nikon D300 or D200 - An older model might suit you now more than a current one - maybe even a second hand D200 body for around $750 orless -
Then get a good lens - nothing lower than 2.8 max aperture, A good lens on any of these cameras will take outstanding pictures if used correctly
Good luck
Jump onto Ebay, they currently have the Nikon D90 for around $1200 with 3 lens, up to the 300mm as well,
merry xmas
Hey Ewan
Save up for a few more months, and up your price to about $1500, you will be able to get something a lot better.
Have a look at: www.dpreview.com/ its a great review site with a discussion forum where you can get feedback from professional photographers and just general users.
Good luck!
