no red, most surfers / kiters dont have a problem riding forehand or backhand including myself, i was replying to his home made rule, rocket, have you got an issue with gay dolphins?

The issue is while your posing infront of "the scene" on your straight hander hoping your friends are watching, without any awareness of whose around you, there may be other water users up wind of you waiting to smack the lip your riding in front of.

The attitude of "stuff whose around me, im trying to get pitted" by going against the wave riding direction stuffs everone else up.

Maybe Red you could explain what you mean by going against the wave riding direction? I could never work out what the right direction is?

How Gay have the banks at Brighton been, that and add the circus factor next to the swimming area..there are so many better spots with steeper waves to be had..what I have noticed is how cool the public and the beach inspectors are with us even with crashing kites and boards clunking heads in the shorey..its a tuff balance to not over do it at that spot...

It’s a fantastic idea to share tips that could prevent kiting from being banned from local beaches. I would like to add one.

Do not walk over sand dunes with your kites, if the track is to narrow deflate your kite carry it up the track. (I was guilty of doing this until someone advised me not to)

If other beach users see kiters doing things like this it could give all kiters a bad image.

Get Funky, I think its quite good of you to make sure you keep a good distance from any swimmer that comes across your path, or beach user that happens to be around.

Im sure your aware that 50m south of the path is in fact quite narrow and barely enough room to launch.

I would suggest a better idea might be to make it clear to punters that this a kitesurfing area. This is why plenty of those swimmers come to that spot, to watch.

As long as the clubbies are kept happy and kiters use common sense, there shouldnt be a drama. We have just as much right to use the area as anyone else.

Has anyone asked what the lifesavers would like us to do? The guys I have spoken to on the beach all seem cool as long as the flags are given a wide berth.

Same deal with the Floreat Groyne. Im sure no one tries to surf or kite off the City groyne,( the one that gets good banks.) Its a no go area for swimming only. Again in conjunction with the clubbies there, we should ask what can be done to make this safer for everyone. ie, try to discourage swimmers from going there. Its the one place we are allowed, we shouldnt roll over and give it up. If you talk to old school surfers, they fought for years to make it clear that this is a surf spot, not a swimming spot.

Sure everyone needs to get along and it shouldnt be so hard. The less regulation the better.

Hey Corey,

fair points, not sure i agree with some tho. Great advice talking to clubbies BTW.

Recently the beach has washed away leaving a narrow land area. In that case landing should be occuring further south not north though so that it is 50-75 m from the walkway.

For those - like myself - doing the downwind run of 4kms, sacrificing less than 100m so joe public can relax and enjoy a surf/swim (whatever they do it will have been a pastime there for decades prior to kiting) is not asking much i reckon.

Also lately i have noticed (on the few chances i have had to get out) the Scarb flagged area has crept a lot closer to the 'kiting area' and walkway so that anyone landing at the entrance to the walk way is easily within the suggested 50m zone. Why you would land at the entrance to the walk way stuns me BTW.

Agree the less regulation the better but then you get below occuring..

Name and shame time:

On Saturday, the bloke on a blue n white (9m?) eclipse Kima. Mate, you have embarrassed your fellow kiters at the Floreat groin by throwing repeated tacks and pizz weak spray in the face of a 13-ish yr old grommy trying to get a few waves on his surfboard. Repeatedly going within a few metres (3-5m absolute max) UPWIND of the poor bugger and throwing 'real hero moves', right where the kid was, with no margin for error. This continued for 10 mins or so whilst I rigged up, until - no doubt sh!t scared - the grommy got out of the water. At that point the kite weilding ignoramus fecked off down wind! This kid was just trying to have a bit of fun in a zone traditionally occupied by groms and swimmers, and a selfish individual like you has so little respect for anyone else it makes me sick.

Whilst the kid was not sitting directly on the groin break he was located much closer to the groin than away and on the inside white wash effectively. He was in the spot where there are always a few younger groms. This is where most kiters walk past before launching - let alone fanging in and out. Gutless, selfish and plain dangerous.

Embarrassing for all kiters in the area.

Above is the sort of behaviour that should not need explaining or guidelines etc, yet here we are seeing it most days there is wind.

As you said Corey, "If you talk to old school surfers, they fought for years to make it clear that this is a surf spot, not a swimming spot." Damn straight and they shouldn't have to forfeight it to the latest dysfunctional kiting kids on the block.

Good point GetFunky about landing near the path when the Flags are up. If one thing is important, it is to stay well clear of the flags. The flags are usually down by the time I come though so I didnt even think about it.

In saying that, the other day they were up and nearly everyone was doing the right thing. Except for the tourist on a Cab that thought it was ok to ride though area, just after he dropped his kite and nearly drifted into the flag zone.

The number one thing that pisses the clubbies off is having people ride through the flags, DONT DO IT and make the effort to pull up guys that do.

So you know that he was a tourist because you went over and spoke to him?
Was he from Europe?
Or are you just assuming that he was a tourist?
Intolerance breeds intolerance, violence breeds violence, localism breeds more localism and stupid intolerant violent locals remain C%^k heads.

As a windsurfer, I give you thumbs up for your user group. The separate kiting and windsurfing areas at Scarborough seem to work well and most people do the right thing and respect that everyone is at the beach to enjoy themselves.

Hopefully your group can inform / call to account the small minority who show little regard for other beach users. It's in everyone's interest as we will all be affected if there are bans etc.

Kiters take up a small section of the beach and there are plenty of other places to swim. I would encourage you to warn swimmers of the dangers of swimming in areas you kite and suggest they move further upwind or between the flags - many swimmers just don't realise the risks (but you can be sure they'll cry to mummy if anything happens to them).

Leech - cheers for the advice and support. Many kiters have windsurfed or are friends with people who do. Will PM you to get in touch properly - it's good to share

Take Note Scarborough Users and give the 100m stretch where Dog owners concentrate (between Floreat and Scarbs) a BIG detour for the near future. Lets self regulate and just stay +50m from shore for a start, and stay out of the sets for that 100m or so.

No doubt owners/punters there have been concerned about the massive numbers of kiters intruding/encroaching on them in this small area and they will certainly be very interested in the Mullaz developments.

Kitestock timing couldn't be better, less traffic this week is good to keep the peace in the dawggy area.

Show courtesy and we (hopefully) won't be lookin at a ban also.

Try cruising a lame bottom turn into a left while I'm on it right and you'll end up smacked. Anyone comin' downwind into another kiters zone is at fault if they hit em. So If I hit you, and I will, don't cry about it.

Deleted my former post as I made the mistake of getting sucked into a pretty ridiculous and inflaming (pun intended) post.

The above attitude and selfish "My pit - so kn get stoofed" mentality will do no good for any of us in the long run. If we can't internally sort our laundry and amicably get along on the water then we are a even more of a menace and cactus in the eyes of authoritys.

Play nice. Share the awesome resource of ocean and wind and just drop the macho territorial guff that most grow out of in the teen years. Or pick another hobby cause potentialy we won't have access in the future.

S'ok - I don't go for monkey magic look-alikes

Was part of my earlier post showing a pic of Chuck Norris and then you. I deleted that as I thought better of further inflaming this thread instead of staying on track with the intention of improving things generally. Occasionally i show decent sense.

In hindsight I should have chosed Monkey magic but Chuck's atood seemed to fit.

If I knew how to remove the MM shot I would as it's kinda creepy TBH.

Anyhoo - I am keen (seriously) to know how you feel about surfers being intruded on by kiters appearing from upwind and if you'd expect a pop in the moosh for grabbing a wave upwind from a surfer wanting to get a 2 foot sloppy slice o' glory?
