Anyone know anything about knots?
Got a slingshot rpm 2014 with a bridle that's about to snap. Rigged up a bit of sailing rope with two Yosemite bowline knots. Are they a secure/trustworthy knot good enough for a bridle?
It's just a band aid solution til the replacements come in the mail from slingshot as the 2014 rpm bridle is faulty and has been recalled
I use this knot rock climbing. Hasn't failed on me (thank god). Should be good for a tempo. If not maybe a double figure 8.
That's a weird bowline !! But I get what its trying to do - should be fine as a knot as long as it doesn't interfere with your slider.
Ive found that I can use old (in perfect nick) flying lines for all sorts of custom pigtails etc and given I double it up to achieve the pigtail it will be close to twice the line strength - less the knot strength de-rating.
Given your handy work - Im not sure Id be too worried about the slingshot ones!!
Edit - this could be a new thread but Im keen to understand the benefits of pullies vs sliders for bridles?? Im hearing that sliders seriously chew into the bridle line - not only the ronstan ones but have also seen the same for the north 'static' pullies.
My kites have the ronstan pullies and as long as I check them to make sure they aren't sand filled they have no wear affect on the bridal.
So back to the main thread - Im thinking that you are looking for a solution that started with a problem in the making ??
The solution from slingshot was to recall all 2014 rpms replacing the aluminum sliders with 2013 plastic ones and a new bridal line. Mines in the mail but Iv got a few windy days comin up and couldn't wait for the replacements so o thought I would rig something up just to get by.
As a mock up bridle fix I was just wondering if that kind of rig/knots are going to be secure and trustworthy etc
