Sea rescue saved a kiter 3km off Scarbs today apparently.

Anyone see/hear/know what happened?

Apparently, the rescue boat crew said if he hadn't been wearing a helmet they wouldn't of found him, it made a dunk noise on the hull as they drove over him, which alerted them to his position, , a crew member said it was a win win situation , the kiter was rescued and we got a few nasty barnacle removed from the hull,

Saw a kite wayyyyy offshore around 6h30 from CB. Only a little black dot on the horizon.
Risky for that time of the day and the wind wasn't that strong...
We also saw the rescue boat coming back around 7h30.

Graphs say it stayed 10-15kn til around 9pm still. Definitely felt like it got a bit lighter around 6 on the beach though. Gear failure maybe? Or else the marketing on these light wind kites is complete false advertising?

As an aside, cauncy that's hilarious!

Not surprised, had 3 students in December, all had lessons with different so called kite-schools in perth, when asking what level they were at, all, were struggling to get up on board BUT none had used there safety systems OR done a self rescue, same **** different day Get used to it i'm afraid

No need to speculate and go negative.
The last time this happened (www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/Rescue-3kms-off-Cottesloe-Sat-Dec-7/) it sounded like the guy did most things right and was not in any immediate danger when he was picked up.

Yeah, I know cause you don't have enough wind to get out for a kite and you have no better beer to drink.

I don,t understand why anyone would go 3km out to sea kiteboarding

Sloppy ocean chop is horrible to ride in

And its boring

And hummers my knees

Stay in amongst the surf and waves

Usually its pretty flat water between the waves and whitewash

and there are kickers/whitewash to ramp off whist boosting

And if you get into trouble its only a 10 to 60 metre swim or walk back to the beach
