Thumbs Up

Caloundra Life Guards (the pro's - not volunteers) are mostly happy with the behaviour so far from kiters this season. However, after a brief chat with the Lifeguard on duty at Currimundi Lake yesterday they have requested that I post the following request.

1. It is ok to set up your gear north of the flagged area at Currimundi Lake but please enter the water downwind of the flagged zone OR north of the creek mouth. Far too many kiters are kiting straight through the flagged zone on their first tack off the beach. (Yesterday somebody spent two hours kiting in and out of the flagged area unstrapped on his surfboard, constantly falling off and having to body drag near swimmers. (you know who you are))

2. The entire length of Dicky Beach (from Ann St rocks to Neill St) is a bathing reserve and should be treated as a flagged zone. (all sail craft are banned from Dicky Beach) ANYONE KITING IN THIS AREA IS ENDANGERING THE FUTURE OF OUR SPORT. Please observe the normal rules if passing Dicky Beach on a downwinder to Moffat. 200m from the last breaking wave.

Bulcock Beach bathing reserve will soon be re-opened after recent re-development. Please DO NOT KITE ANYWHERE NEAR THE FLAGGED ZONE OR WITHIN 30 METRES OF SWIMMERS OR OTHER VESSELS.
Please do not set up your equipment or launch, land etc west of the steps and the 6 knot speed sign. The entire length of Bulcock Beach west of the steps is a bathing reserve and should be treated as such.

It all comes down to common sense and courtesy. However, there are some gumbies about who have neither. If you see one of these gumbies, politely ask them to follow the regulations. The second request can be impolite!!

Now that the entire Sunshine Coast is under the control of one council, what happens at Caloundra can affect the future of kiting at Noosa and Maroochydore and vice Versa.

Have a great summer everyone!!!!
