ok, my original one broke and my DIY one is going all limp. Any suggestions on a nice (DIY) stiff one?
Pls keep it clean ![]()
My old one on my 2010 switchy went a bit ' limp' I used a bit of fuel hose to 'stiffen ' and 'lengthen ' it . Inadvertently it also improved the 'girth ' , you know when you use the fuel hose like a sheath , still going hard and strong today ![]()
Seriously though ! I got a piece of black fuel hose from Clark rubber and slipped it over the DD , my chicken loop was stretching beyond the reach of it , hence unhooking when I least expected . It works great ! ![]()
^^^ chicken finger WTF is this ****. Its a donkeys dick now don't lets get all PG rated with our kiting terms now. ![]()
and on the DIY options i've tried three cable ties attached to the bar hook and taped together with electrical tape... worked ok but of course the tape came off after about 5 sessions. bit of garden hose sheath over the top might be a way to fix that
Well in the beginning there was a loop you hooked the kite to on a windsurfing harness, then some guys decided that when 4 line kites came along using the limited depower of them made you a chicken and so the term "Chicken loop" came into existence. Myself and many others tried to change the thinking on this to "trim loop", because thats what you are doing when you power up or depower the kite (also stupid and inaccurate terms), you are trimming its angle to the wind, not chickening the angle to the wind, or chickening, whatever that is?
Then this term for the peg that stopped the loop coming off your hook appeared and became known as the "donkey dick", which is sort of funny but not so, if you are a female and you are having trouble with the dick, thing.
So Ozone decided that they would call the damn thing a chicken finger, makes perfect sense right? ![]()
I have found small water line, the type witch is semi clear and has criss cross webbing inside.
found at marine supply companies.
then a neat fit inside that is home arial cable wth stainless braid inside
cut bit shorter to seal exposed end.
lub up with silicon sealant and slid it in.
Lasts forever.

Chicken finger perferable to having to explain to the kids why it's called a donkey's dick!
fyi the Ozone version is probably too limiting for my needs. It would mean swapping kites on the fly more troublesome. I also have a second bar so taking it on/off would become a pain.

Aerial cable sounds like a good idea. Wonder if i have some lying around....
Why not make your own 'finger' permanently attached to your harness spreader bar? Because it comes from you and not the chicken loop, it is gauranteed never to come out. But the problem is doing unhooked tricks because you have to pull it out to release the chicken loop and fiddle with it again to put it back.
What Gwako said is a good idea.
They used to be common many years ago but I haven't seen them in years.
