Howzit gang,
So I was sitting around B.S.ing in Kailua with no wind whatsoever, realizing that I don't own any light wind kites my buddy digs out an older model Cab for me. Being a cheap bastard of course I picked it up for $75... dropped it off with Eddie and Kathy and they pulled it apart and re- glued all the valves. So now I have a really good condition 12 meter 08 X-bow 3, nice canopy, freshly glued valves, but then I look at the pulleys on the kite and think uh oh...
After digging around online I see that it's supposed to be on a 2:1 bar. Sounds like I could fly it on a 1:1 but it will be sluggish? Can the bridal be easily modified to work better with the 1:1 bar? Does anybody remember this old kite?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
That looks like the ticket... can't seem to find one online anywhere though. I'm sure somebody has one in their garage somewhere. If there's a bridal modification that would allow the kite to fly decent on a 1:1 that would be good news for me. Thanks!
Pretty sure there wasnt a conversion for the xbow . Contra and Convert , yes . But not the xbow....
I might be wrong but im pretty sure , Sorry Bro
You may be in luck, I saw this the other day. www.seabreeze.com.au/Classifieds/Kitesurfing-Accessories/~t0y4n/2007-Cabrinha-21-Pulley-Bar.aspx?search=hyvsXlUPOmyC8EqBQOn!Aw==
hope it fits the bill.
A scabby kiter like me knows a lot about these old kites, as I still have em! ![]()
Ok the 2:1 and 1:1 pulley systems on the old Cabs is actually a good system. I use 2:1 for wanting big jumps and boosts. I then change it to 1:1 when I just want to mow the lawn and practice some transitions.
If you want to know how to convert the bar from one to the other, let me know. I still have the PDFs.
Thanks Lofty,
So I don't have the original bar although I'm trying to hunt one down. (not sure on shipping here from Australia). I was going to just use my switch controller 2 but worried it would fly weird 1:1. So is it just more sluggish on a regular bar? I will probably just be mowing the light wind lawn, but if I can get some jumps in I'd be way happier. Thanks again.
Kiteaddiction guys shot me a price for shipping, it's pretty reasonable. Just talked to my good friends who were working on the valves, turns out they put in a whole new bladder, replaced the hoses and worn bridal lines, and replaced some pulleys. Looks like I have a brand new old kite, might as well get the bar to go with it. Should be a cool kite for Kailua or lighter days up here, or windy days up here on the rockered twin tip. Thanks guys, awesome find jaysmith, should work out nicely.

don't worrie about the 2to 1 as it just made kite heaver to steer . yes a bit slower correction you just have to pull bar further to which ever side you are steering too that is it. dosnt make kite slower or faster you just have to put more input in than if it was 2 to 1 .
re 2:1 vs 1:1 kite
a 2:1 bar is designed for a kite with a ton of travel,
if you depower half a meter on a 2:1 bar, you will need to depower 1 meter on a 1:1 bar to get the same depower
If you can ajust the back bridle so the turning line pulls much more towards the front of the kite, it will be more 1:1 bar friendly
I have designed 2:1 and 1:1 kites.
Makes perfect sense. No worries, I actually have the original bar coming in the mail now...all the way from Australia.
