Question: is it worth it to buy new gear now or to wait? With North and other company's about to release new kites in the next 2 or 3 months is it even worth it to be still looking for a new kite.

depends on the discount being offered. If its 30-40% off then definatly. Improvements on new models these days are negligible in general.

With the dollar going down also, pretty sure the prices will go up with the new kites
even though prices stayed high when our dollar went up.

Well... Why do you need to have the latest kite? I've seen little brazilian kids on '04 **** bags doing stuff most people can't even dream of doing. I personally learned just about every trick I know on one of those crappy black Yarga's which is an 05 design.. just saying.. it isn't all about gear. "Is it worth it" sounds kind of funny to me..

I've been 'shipped wrecked' a few times due to fatigued lines or other parts that can let go and create all sorts of drama depending on where you are sliding.

So as long as the second hand kite is still in good nik, (check every line, knot, canopy etc) simply to avoid swimming.
If your sailing/kiting with off shore winds or with strong currents, (especially if your going solo) you need to be sure of your gear.

For that matter, when I buy brand new gear I still check the entire 'equation' from the chick loop thru to the canopy (don't trust who puts your kite together as they generally have no idea what they are used for) and my first kite would be in comfortable on shore's.

Can you tell I'm a family man, wouldn't have bothered with precautions 25 years ago.

So if prices go up with a falling dollar, why or why do they never go down with a rising dollar???

Suppose it depends on when they buy they buy the kites? Also the economies of scale. Also make hay while the sun shines...I know the guy I go through has more margin to move with and passes this on. Find yourself a good retailer man, and develop a relationship. The good ones will look after you.

im with you on that, we and youll never out ride your kite, your kite will always have the upper hand so buying the latest gear every year is basically a waste of money, buy last years gear itll do everything that you can throw at it

Regardless of whether you buy now or wait, guaranteed the week after you buy a better deal will pop up.
