hey i am keen to learn to kite surf,
and have a question might be a silly one, but can i use my wakeboard to kite surf with? ![]()
It will be a little harder to go upwind but its good enough for start.
Even you might be able to pin fins into your board, its cheaper than buying a new board
I would suggest that if you do use your wake board then get an impact vest or life vest for a bit of bouyency. This will help when you spend time relaunching after crashing the kite.
Ha when I started I got sold a wake board as a kite board.
Not good to learn on.
Harder to go upwind.
More wind required for me about 5-10knts or a kite 2mt bigger.
No flex so no pop out of water for jumping ( once more experienced ).
Board is heavier.
A wake board is viable but the minute you jump on a good kite board you'll be begging your girl for the extra $$$ to upgrade.
nah keep the wakeboard its where its at, dont use straps please. what ever u do just keep the bindings.
to learn to kite use a kite board, its more beginer friendly
with a wakeboard....
- its more difficult to starts, you have to put your foot in the binding while keeping the kite flying at the same time
- crashes are way more painfull with bindings than with straps
- kiting is more tiring, cause you have less freedom of movement.
- the board is heavier, so more difficult to move around
I prefer going at a cable ski park with my kiteboard
My 2bits...
1. If you use bindings you risk broken legs/ankles/dislocated knees.
2. And avoid using leg ropes too - esp in surf. Kites go way faster than surfers - leg ropes are not safe at kite-speed.
Its safer to lose your board, trawl back to shore, and pick it up on the beach later.![]()
After watching a beginner with binding on his board walking up the beach for the 10th time because, as you know, beginners have trouble going up wind, he than had to attempt to fit on his bindings while controlling a kite in the shallows. I thought an extra set of arms would have been useful at this point. Each time he struggled for about 10 minutes before he got going again.
Most learners have trouble with sliding feet into straps and controlling a kite let alone having to manage a boot. If it was me learning again I would not go for bindings first up. You've got enough to think about.
I love it. I first saw it on a plane from Southern Africa to Western Africa, so it was quite close to home. ![]()
Thanks for the tips girls and guys....
You have convinced me not to initially use my wakeboard to learn with :)
My bindings are hard enough to get into went i wake and have spare hands!!! ![]()
I can not remember when I watched it, but I don't usually have the capacity to sit still through a movie beginning to end.... but I did for that one!!
I am a girl :) hehehehehe
And a hell of good looking one too (Im guessing) to get all this attention to an age old query
