Top work to the fellas who helped out.

Breaking a femur is bad news indeed. I'd be surprised if the bloke tries kiting again as femurs take a long long long time to heal. He will probably be limping the rest of his days.

Hey Breezy, I am still surprised the ambo took so long (even with possible higher priority calls). I would have thought that broken upper leg (no prizes for guessing femur), wet person (potential shock/body temp fluctuation), possible other injuries and the bloke's age may have tipped the scales in his favour?? I'm not criticising ambos or the service as they are outstanding (yes I have been a guest in the St John's limo service) but 45mins from such a close location seems about 20+mins too long to me.

Hey all Im a ambo as well and a mate of the guy who broke his leg,
just to bring everyone up to speed and stop rumours. Yes he is learning but has had lessons up Mullaloo way same time as his sons and he was just getting up on the board, it was just a freak accident, he in good spirits and will be back next year, has a plate in the leg ( ouch ) as far as 40 odd minutes for the ambulance well were getting flogged out there so we do our best, we suffer the same as the hospitals.
But a big thanks to all the kiters who helped out it made his decision to cont kiting easier because its an awesome community, so once again a big thanks, also once he was in the ambulance once medicated he forgot he had a broken leg
Oh and about 90% odds they were dolphins

Hi to all,

Iam the brother of the guy ( Ron ) who broke his leg on Sunday at Pt Walter, first of all, a huge thankyou to all the people who landed their kites / windsurfers etc to help out, his 2 sons ( Damien & Daniel ) also express their gratitude and still cant believe how good the kiting community is when it comes to helping. As well as dropping gear onto the beach to give assistance the crew also packed up all their gear and returned it to the car for them so they could go with their Dad.
Ron was in hospital till Tuesday and is now home to recover ( 6 to 10 weeks with steel plate / pins in place ), he is in good spirits and is even more determined to come back next season ( he was getting up and going before the incident happened ), he has had 3 two hour lessons up at Pinnaroo Pt and was getting some tips ( not lessons ) from his sons Damien and Daniel who also started this season but are more advanced. What happened you may ask, well basically he dropped the kite into the power zone to start his run back out away from the spit, as the kite pulled him up and out of the water his board started to slip sideways ( lost his edge ) as well as he himself started to fall forward, so he decided to jump out of the straps to save being face planted with board attached, as he jumped out he landed awkward on his left leg in shallow water and thats when he heard the crack from his leg, the rest is history.
As far as accidents go it was just unlucky, I have also been kiting for a few years and can remember in those early weeks of learning doing exactly the same thing but not resulting in any injuries, could happen to anyone. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to all as well as dispell rumours about him trying to jump the spit and being an idiot, and to the people who say that others deserve to be injured ( or fkd up as one person put it ) when trying out tricks etc, man, either you have very short memories or you guys have been absolute legends from the very first day, its a shame how different people respond to others misfortune.
Again many thanks
Wayne.
