Just chasing some info on kitesurfing in Port Hedland, kite sizes, wind & season and how the spoilbank rates? Cheers

I have kited up they on and off for 4-5 years.

Kite sizes, 15m, 10m and 8m freestyle kites. If I was to just have 1 kite it would probably be a 10-12m depending on weight (I'm 70kg).

Check willyweather for the 5yr average but remember the wind up there is not nearly as dense. ie for me 20knots in Perth would be 10m for sure but up there its 12-15m weather.

It is windy almost all year round and the spoil bank allows u to kite in either direction without any wind interference. Another place that is good fun is pretty pool in northerlies.

Wind is more consistent in summer (lighter) and winter months. Have kited the 8m quite a lot during the morning winter blows and usually always got out in the arvo for summer sessions.

Tide can also be a bitch

Spoil bank is brilliant.
If the wind is NW usually in the afternoon you have some chop in the luv side and butter flat on the lee side of the bank.
Normally you kite on the little cove on the lee side.
You need to be comfortable with going upwind otherwise you end up on the very sharp cliffs on the other side of the bay.
Check definitely the tides!
Drive with the 4wd to the site and if there no guys you need to tether launch from the tow bar of the car.
Otherwise hitch a ride near the track.
Friendly folks up there.
Don't forget a filled esky!

....check for crock sightings! There are plenty of turtles there as kickers!

Have fun!
