Where are the best places to kite around Port Fairy?

Should I bring my 9 and 12 or just leave the 12 at home?

Does anyone kite on the main beach?

Any info would be great!

Cheers

You'll want/need the 12 (unless you're little), you might get very lucky and get to use a 9 on Thursday... the winds down this way are often light. Yesterday I spent about 5-6 hrs on a 13 (100kg) and was only well powered for the last hour, generally the winds are late in the day.

For Port Fairy: South Beach, half a dozen spots between the airport and golf club, and Pea Soup, are all good spots. Killarney can be a blast too if you get the right wind.

Lady Bay in Warrnambool is good when the Life Savers have quit for the day and the swimmers/boarders have all bailed.

Today and tomorrow look promising, there's a nice SSE working up now and it should build for a blast tomorrow.

I thought it tended to be pretty windy down there... What about East Beach? It's only a 50m walk from where I'm staying but I guess it's pretty popular with swimmers, hmmm.

Thanks azza

I believe that East Beach runs from the town limits past the Airport to the Golf Club, I've only seen swimmers at the town end, most of the beach is often deserted... esp' when it blows. Wind direction and swell dictate the best launch spot, as usual, a car would be handy.

Whining tourists always complain about anything more than a breeze, and turn the story into a howling gale that upset their picnic, so the district has reputation with respect to wind and the difference being what a kiter calls "wind"... that's not to say that you wont get some great session though.

5 of the last 6 days have been kiteable, even though a lot of it was marginal... being a lightweight or having lots of gear is a plus.
