Someone linked me to this on Facebook, it all reads pretty sad if true. It sounds like even kiteboarding is getting big enough now to be caught up in the politics and corruption this corporate world spawns . I'd love to hear what that know it all SirROWDY has to say about this!!!???

Its simply bull**** and pretty obvious that interests by tour owner are a motive for such a decision. You cannot re-run a heat in a different location, simple as that. If Gisela was injured thats bad luck to her but should not have held the PKRA to re run the heat in Pingtan.Hope karma will find justice in Hainan today.

It was a judging mistake to begin with, was that the work of the orgainser?

that happens all the time though. Its hard to score and watch 2 riders at once. It happens once or twice every comp that a heat needs to be re-run. Both riders have to deal with it and go again. If you are injured u don't get compensation... That was the work of the new inbestors

Ewan is right that missed tricks do happen and have happened before and are always dealt with in the same manner - re-runing the heat.

I have no comment to make on any of the decisions made, I just hope the girl with the most sportsmanship wins.

I'm no comp expert, but if you have video footage, you should be able to score the trick, and add it to the total. Why re-run the heat. Makes no sense. NO re-runs.

I watch heaps of ASP (surfing) on fuel. Loads of waves are scored via video footage and from different camera angles. Sometimes because you are watching one person riding a wave and then some is riding another at the same time. Other times the judges actually use the video footage and compare the 2 side by side to make sure they get the right scores.

Can you imagine getting a perfect 10 wave, and be told "oh we need to re-run the heat coz some of the judges were looking in the other direction and missed some of the heat during one manuveur.

Your performance is your performance, use the tools you have to get the scoring right. If the trick was video captured, then its add the score to the total.

-Maybe there needs to be camera persons filming each rider for the duration of the heat. That way no tricks get missed. PKRA needs to do something like that to avoid this type of situations.

Right?!?

yea sounds fair, at the moment there is only one video angle of the trick. The issue with that is you can't see what the kite is doing and all the other variables, so it was hard to score the trick.. I think in the future that needs to be addressed though.

If a trick or manouvre is missed by judges in any sport its down to judges decision.

Good organisers have extra spotters and a quick video replay by the head judge to organise correct scoring.

I can not belive that Gisela would of cracked a hissy fit, but if she was injured and the had to do a rerun then her loss.

Judging criteria will have to be fixed if this is the result.

Being an old kook I'm not really into all of these twisty turny things but I am into surfing competitions. I just want to make sure I understand this situation correctly, maybe someone can tell me if I've understood it all right.

1. PKRA is owned by a guy (Javier?) that also owns Best and part of the Best Gisela Pulido pro centre in Tarifa (if I heard correct)?

2. This guy (Sami Gali) works as the accountant for Best and as well as being the Head Judge for the PKRA?

3. Both the guys mentioned above were in conversation with Gisela Pulido on the phone that night and that next morning the call to re-run that day had been changed?

4. Gisela said she was too injured to compete that day so they moved it to the next event, although I heard she was kiting a day later at the new location?

If this is true it all sounds pretty biased, I couldn't imagine this happening in surfing and if it did I'm sure it would be all over the internet.

So it has been decided that they can not hold a heat outside of the competiton dates so the score has been worked out on there actual results in the comp for the two womenTherefore they now get equal first for the pingtan event

You are half correct. The IKA overturned the decision of the PKRA to re-run the heat in Haikou as it was outside the specified competition dates for Hainan and goes against IKA/ISAF rules. Both girls were still in a tie-break situation, as such they were awarded equal 1st place for that event.

so the judges had to rerun the heat but gisela was injured so they called it a draw
i guess they were Thinking of the Best interest of the sport
