Does anyone know the design differences between the two models? I have a quiver bought lately with one 2011 and two 2012. They look and fly similar, but there is a noticeably heavier bar pressure on the 2011. I wonder what changed, that resulted in lighter bar pressure on the 2012. I suspect the bridal has to do something with it...
... anyone has any info / insight?
Thanks

There could be heaps of slight tweeks that could have changed the bar pressure,
Pop into a ozone retailer and ask

Hi Cauncy,
I have a 6 and a 12 from 2012, and an 8 from 2011. The 8 has more bar pressure then either of the 2012's

Jr, they are all here...

lots of subtle changes I guess. Can't really help much more than that sorry Andrash.
I have a 2011 8m you can try and check the difference with but you will have to come up for a holiday.

...the holiday is already planned, Scotty, but I hope to get some answer before that...
Perhaps if someone technical oriented has a 2012 Cat 8m, we could compare this...
...yes there can be a few subtle changes, or just a simply modified bridal... yet to see...

Yo andrash spoke to my mate who's involved with ozone in the UK he said that the has been no changes in the kites apart from bag and colours just check you've got the settings the same

hmm... strange, the setting is the same: closest to the tip, and I use the same bar / lines with the 8 and the 12.... yet the obvious difference in bar pressure... true mystery

There are differences. What your mate says is true only for the Edge 2011, it received a bag upgrade when the 2012 Cat and C4 were released. This is because Ozone now make one bag style for all their kites. There was a lot of thought and research put into the bag design, the one key thing I like about it is NO ZIPS!
Zips and kite bags suck, how many mangled zips have you seen on older kite bags, then the bag just becomes a pita.

Back to the kite. I know when I was discussing changes with the design team I was told that the catalyst went through a lot of tweaks. Some of the feedback on the 2011 was that the bar pressure was a bit light. Bridle geometry alone could account for the change, but I'm sure there are some canopy/profile tweaks too.

I rode a 14M 2011 the other night, and I still think its an amazing kite for its size and with only 3 struts.

The 2012 Cat BP became lighter. Lightness is comparative. For me the 8m 2011 Cat's BP is heavier than all the 2012 Cat's, my rev's, and my RPM, and previous Cults.

I am suspecting exactly that, and hoping as well... because then by changing the bridle I would have the same light BP as the new version.

On this note... With such a direct kite as the Cat , why would be light BP a problem...?

hey Andrash could it be that you were underpowered while on the 8m. They are a lot heavier when underpowered

How about someone in Perth that has a 2012 8m Cat pm Andrash and they get together (over a beer) so that Andrash can overlay his 2011 to see if any noticeable diff in canopy shape and/or bridal design.

...yes, this would be a true possibility, however I've been flying it for few weeks in different conditions, sometimes over powered... the one I've flown mainly underpowered was the 6m, yet lighter BP...

I have a 2011 8metre and some 2012 Catalysts. Don't know what the differences are, but they are still great kites.
