Nice vid, a great lesson to all not to wear boots in the surf no matter how logical they may appear. I'm no doctor but i reckon he'll have pins and needles in his leg for sometime.
I wonder how much the camera effected the behavior of the lines, causing them to slack.

This video shows what can happen when you cross over your kite lines with your board. A GoPro was on the middle lines, when the lines went slack, the weight of the GoPro pulled the lines under the water. The result was the lines becoming tangled around the board and relaunching the rider into the air, coming down with a huge impact and resulting in a compound fracture to the leg. Broken in 4 places and repaired with a steel rod and screws.
A very unlucky scenario... however, broken bones is a lucky escape given the circumstances: drowning would've been a definite possiblity...
GoPro line mounts can definitely impact the functionality of the safety system as well as being a further source of potential tangle. I think that's the main lesson to learn from this video.
The kiter himself said '' No more boots for me..'' Must've been very frightening not being able to get the feet out of the board
I guess this raises the debate about hook knives again, but as Underoath related in his tangle experience with boots, the question is would you be able to reach for the knife and cut the lines...? knowing that with a small ''harness type'' hook knife you can only cut the thinner part of the lines which is usually above the trim line on the front lines and sometimes further away on the back lines as well.

It isn't me in the vid beebee & have no idea who it is, I hope the poor sod recovers quickly as well.
Another example of just how dangerous twin tips can be in the surf. Just a matter of time till they are restricted to the bays, lakes and river mouths.
Another reason why I only ride strapless...
Even in non-waves conditions this can happen after a jump for example.
You guys should try strapless, it's fun.
Strapless is so yesterday, got to go boardless. He wouldn't have had that nasty board tangle in his lines.
Lesson I learnt from boots is don't leave your laces dangling around after you've tightened them. Did a dead man and force from flicking my legs up caused to lace ends to spin up around one of the steering lines unknown to me as I was upside down, then of course when I went to lower my legs down the kite pulled hard right! Thankfully I was close to hitting the water anyway and the kite hit and stopped without death looping and the lace unwound its self

Damn, that went wrong real quick!
Doubt it would make much difference, but I'm ordering 10 line knifes and taping them to my fingers for my next session...
these vids make me ill. Not being able to get out of those boots is what nightmares are made of. I don't think a line cutter would have helped him as he was being constantly pulled. He might of had a chance for a brief period but from the pull of the lines it doesn't appear to be so. I can see where boots have their place for a style of riding, but in some ways it's like getting caught in an avalanche upside down. This guy was very fortunate, (or not so because his accident) it could have been a drowning had he been further out.
Question....do they make a quick release boot like a binding where you could reach down and unclip quickly?

Think the hyperlites would be the quickest and easiest to get out of being like a snow board binding but still have to undo 4 straps no actual quick release type design I'm aware of that gets you out in one go.
