No private ownership of beach front property. There are a heap of other things for sure, but this is topical with regard to water access.

Believe me I have seen what this has done in the USA..........dead communities of unhappy people looking over each other's shoulders..............one word for it............. ugly, who want's to live in a gated controlled community of busy bodies..........

We have the same in Sweden, it's called right of common access which gives you access to all nature areas, apart from farmland and private property of course. This also require you not to damage, destroy anything living aswell as not pollute or litter. It is terrific and I can not imagine living without these rights

Yeah, drive south from New Jersey along the coast, you cant get to the coast, never even saw a glimps of it.
same on Oahu, wanted money for any time beyond 15 min spent on their beach

Wouldnt it be great if you owned your own section of beach
No bodyboarders, no men in g-bangers (like there somtimes are) , actually nobody else. It would be wicked. But it would suck if you dont own your own beach. Man that sounds cool, owning your own beach.

It does SOUND good DP,

But when you think about it, what can you really do with a bit of beach the width of a house block?

That's what they have here in the US, I went looking for good spots to kite when I first got here, I have to drive for 1-2 hours into another state if the wind is South through NE because I just can't get to any of the areas that I WOULD be able to kite otherwise. Well that's not completely true, there are a few areas a little further up the bay, but Kiting with Alligators doesn't sound like too much fun to me.

Unfortunately this isnt protected by law.
Beachfront and oceanbed is/has being sold by government to private developers - current Perth example is Port Coogee, where land was sold to Australand (50% owned by Singapore Govt!) for a Private Marina development. Unlike Hillary's the public acess eventually negociated is not particularly public friendly.(at $3 million a marina block Id want it private too.!!)

A much bigger problem is Native Title Lands. Much of the South West has National Parks etc that preserve public acess to beaches, but this is definately not the case in the North West.
A recent trip from Broome, as escorted guests of a land owner, to Cape Leveque made it really clear that their Land (not in a community) is beach and ocean, and no one (black, white or pokadot) is allowed there. (not because its sacred just thats its theirs.) Basicly that whole Peninsula - except as paying tourists at the Eco Resort- is inaccessable to outsider beach users.

Be interesting to know if this is the case with all Native Title near the ocean.
