A man has been encircled and attacked by a number of sharks while kite boarding off a beach in the US state of Florida, local media reports.
The incident occurred in an unguarded section of water off Stuart Beach, about 160 kilometres north of Miami.
A lifeguard came to the rescue of the stricken man who had sustained several shark bites, WPTV reported.
The lifeguard performed CPR on the beach before the victim was transported to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

WPTV says thousands of sharks have been spotted off shore because of migration and that several local beaches have closed due to shark sightings in recent months.
