Recently i bought a 2011 fuse and have flown and loved it a couple times now experiencing nothing out of the ordinary whats so ever. I have however a 2008 Evo that i learnt on.. for a few weeks untill i gave up and bought a pair of carbrihna converts because the thing was out of control. The converts i quickly found my rhythm and progressed rapidly on.

I bought the fuse because regardless of how uncontrollable the 08 evo is (i have revisited it recently with a few more months of kiting under my belt and experienced the same problems i.e all or nothing power, very little depower, highly susceptible to gusts..) i loved the bar and lines on the north.

Now my problem: I understand that maybe the evo needs to fly on a 5th line which i dont have to tame it down a bit but what i dont get is after lying the 2 bars (08 and 11) side by side and hooking the lines up to check the lengths i found a few oddities. Both manuals read "vario cleat in full power.. steering knots in middle.. hook to the bar..ect ect and lines should be equal length" This however is not the case with the 2011 and if anything the lines look more equal when the kite is de-powered.

The 2008 bars lines ARE equal in this setting... so im just confused as to why my brand new stock bar and lines wouldnt be set to the manual specs. ALSO iv noticed the 2008 bar has a WAAAY bigger de-power throw i.e when de-powered in this situation the steering lines go completely drooped (nearly to the flour when the centre lines are taught waist height) where the 2011 bar and lines have hardly any noticeable difference on powering and de-powering the cleat.

I just dont get this because the results are completely contrary to my understandings of how thee two kites fly...

Now it must also be noted the 08 bar and lines are near new as is the kite, myself and the previous owner from new just didnt enjoy flying it so it never got used much.

ANYWAY sorry for the wall of text, hope somebody can make heads and tales of my situation cos im stumped.

Owen.

in other words dumb question? I know your probably just trying to tip your post count over to 2k by giving such a blunt replies to somebody who is clearly "in search" for answers by using this forum but just in case my questions weren't clear enough..

1: why do my brand new bar and lines seem to not be set to factory settings but fly perfectly fine? have i missed somthing..

2: How does my 08 bar and lines achieve way more de-power throw when everything else seems to be the same?

yes i am fairly new to the sport but as far as im aware trimming refers to using the knots on the back lines and the cleat on the front lines to power and depower the kite but tilting the nose back or forward.. not sure how this helps me.

Bring the bar in to see us at AKS if you're north of the river and we'll check it and reveal all, re the bar settings/depower throw.

Hi Mywisdom,

There is something proper wrong there . 2nd hand kites get modified from time to time by people who aren't as clever as they think they are and then sell them on rather than deal with the problem.

As Toddy said, drop it in and we'll sort it. There's not much we can't fix on the spot.

Cheers,

DM
