Hey. Was wondering if anyone else has had any issues with the 2013 north bar. Ive had the bar for a year now and yes ive used it a fair amount but its pretty much run its race allready. I have always washed it and taken resonable amount of care with it. The elastic bands on the end of the bar have both snapped, the rubber on the actual bar has come away and the depower rope has this red plastic coming through it that jams up in the cleat when pulling on it. Spoke to a guy in a perth shop who said it sounds like normal wear and tear.....If this is the case id like to know if anyone else has had these problems?

im still using my 2010 and 2011 kites and bars and they are still going strong. Sounds like you should change your depower line tho?

Had the same thing happen with my depower line, although I used the bar a lot I didn't trim much so was surprised to see it go so fast. The guy at the shop said he changes his out yearly, prob not bad advice.

Contact North direct --make your complaint to them
My slingshot bar is 4 years old and is like new ( sort of - you know what I mean)
My mate has a north. 1 season old and he's worn through the rubber grip completely
Really not good enough
Sounds like only North customer relations might care enough to be able to help
Obviously a local store isn't going to pay for a new bar for you

I have the same problem with my north bar, the grip looks like a dog has been chewing on it and it has started to come away from the handle along the seam which required me to glue it back down. Also I have had the exact same problem with the red wire coming out of the depower rope, you can fix this by gently feeding it down the rope but it was a pain to do on a bar that is only 10 months old. I also have a 2014 north bar and I think that the handle is better made, we shall see how long it lasts though.

Gotta say I'm not happy with my 2013 North bar either. Grip is starting to peel after 5 sessions, the red depower line has come through the surrounding sheath lines. The elastic line retainer on one side bro he second session out..
Contacted point if sale, offered to try repair elastic piece, but that was the extent of it. Being that this was the first kite I purchased, I would have thought that going with a brand such as Nirth, and there reputation, the bar should have been much better quality than what it is.
Cheers Steve

My 2013 North bar has had the same issues. Red plastic has come through the trim strap and grip is peeling off. I might just wrap it with a tennis racquet grip or similar, has anyone tried this?

Sounds ingenious... but when I had this issue, I contacted North and they sent me a new bar (after a bit of chasing... and a bit more... although it's unclear whether the merchant, or North were a little slow to the party*).

The 2013 bar *did* have a production issue wrt the glue on the bar.

* NB - This was not a real party.

Salty did you have to send your bar back to them first? I'd rather make my own fix than have no bar for a while...

Nope. But I got *just* the bar. No lines, chicken loops, etc. Which is, you know, expected and fine. It does mean I have to find a window (metaphorically, cause I'm really good at literally finding windows) to swap the lines over and check they're balanced etc.

The plastic ring the lines go through in my 2013 north bar also split in two and started to damage lines, the other kite bar has a similar issues. I took photos and sent with production numbers (through the seller) to North. Was told last week that they are sending me replacement rings (free of charge). Still waiting .....

North quality has become rubbish.

So far this season I have replaced 6 plastic trim line inserts, 4 trim lines, 3 lines, 3 bars due to failure of the grip, 1 bar due to it snapping in half.

Additionally, have had both my canopies warrantied for split leading edge stitching, and twin tip warrantied for delamination, the entity foot straps have also deteriorated to unsatisfactory state.

I'm considering asking for a refund on all defective equipment or failing that, taking action for breach of statutory warranty. If a product is warrantied for 18 months and is continually replaced/repaired then in my books its a lemon.

Class action anyone?

This is an older kite. Many of the issues other people are having is on gear which isnt even a year old!!

Yep my grip is peeling away too, I even rinse and dry my bar/lines every session

Also just got my new fuse back, after 5 sessions about 2inches of stitching and 2 rows started coming undone right smack in the middle of the leading edge, all fixed now, but that's not a good sign from a brand new kite.
So I'm now checking my kite and bar after every session for defects.

I have the 2013 Bar with ~40 sessions on it.

Grip is holding up ok, although the white is discoloured from my dirty paws..

I lost one of the elastic loops after pulling on it a bit hard, but I just replaced it with $2 of 3mm shock cord from BCF.

I also have the same issue with red line out the depower rope. I think these should be replaced as they are not coping with fair amount of use within the warranty period. Anyone tried to get these replaced? I assume that's an easy swap out.

SUPER FANTASTIC!

The 2013 bar is most certainly a dud and it should be recalled. 14 so far is holding up well. Lets wait and see.

Putting a glued seam on the top of the bar seems the wrong way around to me. Wont the friction from your fingers/hands peel it away much quicker than if the seam was at the bottom of the bar, irrispective of the glue used?

Yeh my 2014 bar is holding up as well, even the depower rope is still sweet, one bar across two kites since September. That 2013 bar though...damn, no doubt it has issues hey.
