Tried to replace the de-power and stopper ball rope today on my 07 bar and when trying to undo the screw on the iron heart to allow the rope to be removed, I was unable to undo it, no matter what I tried. It has come to the point now that the alan key head has now started to thread so it doesn’t grip that well on one side. This means its going to be near impossible to undo. Anyone got any ideas of what my options are now? The screw has to be removed in order to be able to change the ropes. I never wash my bar, so the screw is probably seized together, was thinking of trying to drill the top of the screw head off, but because its stainless steel, this would be pretty hard. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers

The only advice i can give you is ALWAYS ALWAYS wash youre bar!!!! n let it hang out to dry after.... no matter what kind of metal is incorporated into the construction of youre bar, if you never wash it its gonna corode...

Spagman

go to your local auto parts shop and buy a can of 'Freeze it'. Spray the screw and then try and undo it again. The spray is similar to liquid nitrogen and will shrink the screw making it easier to undo. Make sure you concentrate the spray on the screw so that it shrinks the screw and not the surface around it.
I have used this stuff many times in my 15 years as a diesel mechanic and works well.

Good luck

You prabably have salt build up in the thread. Soaking it in fresh water for a few days may loosen it up. Spraying with WD40 may work if you can spray it directly into the thread.

If it was me, I would carefully grind the head of the bolt off with an angle grinder. If you try to drill the head off, be careful, as stainless-steel 'work hardens' very quickly, so use a sharp drill, and take it slowly.

Good luck.
