One of my other sports is mountain biking. Its equally as stoke-worthy as kiting, all be it a little more dangerous.
Every Tuesday night I go on a ride with the boys.
Last night we snuck up the mountain and hit up a tramping track we hadn't ridden before. This isn't your average a gravel track. Its a gnarly root infest track that winds up a steep mountain face. You have to carry your bike up on your shoulder wondering as you go if it's even possible to ride down.
Anyway. We punted down this stupid steep track that had roots like your old teacher's legs at school. Had tolaunch off drops onto more ridiculous roots while trying not to smack into trees.
Ahhh what a glorious silly session. I rated it as stoke worthy as a double head plus wave session or a monster boost session in 35 knots...
Oh yeah. Its good to have more than one way to get your stoke fix.
Whats your nonkiting stoke? regale me with a story.
Mine would have to be yacht racing. Thinking back to a night on the east coast of Tassie running at a steady 22-23 knots which is quick for a 45 foot yacht. Wind gusting to 30 i was trying to get a sleep in on the port bunk, feeling the boat catching waves then slowing as it hit the back of the next one, one after the other, whole boats hummin, creakin n groanin. There's chat on deck about changing to a smaller kite (spinnacker) and seconds later i feel her surf down a wave but no slowing into the back of the next, just more down hill followed by a ruckus on deck and next thing i see the bow wave rushing past the cabin windows cos most of the boats gone under the next wave. Then all on deck to figure out how we gonna get this 150 sq/m kite down.
hell yeah!!![]()
I bought a mountain bike. Its the best piece of carbon fibre I've ever seen, but really as useful as an expensive painting hanging in my apartment hallway, next to my SUP, long skateboard, 11 surfboards and twin tip.
All of which (minus one surfboard) that I never use.

Nice. That's a worthy story.

Get out there and use the carbon artwork... Or sell it and turn it into another stokeworthy toy.

I hear ya, but I do intend to use it more, it just can't clash with good surf and kite conditions. Alright I'll get onto it. The SUP stays where it is though.
I'm thinking of taking up sheep shagging![]()
Give your cousin a break I suppose eh
Suk foiling was pretty good.
Dont have to be in the young generation to tack or gybe the thing.
Very chilled out..... well worth trying.
Still a kite sorry but only small.

Its all good until it goes to ****. I've had friends with broken leg, arms, hip and neck. The latter passed away after the second vertebrae break.
Not enough enjoyment to make it worthwhile in my book. I had better fun hang gliding and skydiving,

Sad story man. My thought is that biking is less life threatening than kiting, gliding, skydiving. But more likely to have injuries like broken bones.
Talk about kiting, windsurfing, surfing or SUP or GTFO TRAITOR!!!!!!
Valid call. True watermen immerse themselves it all forms of water sports.
I'm not a waterman. I'm a terrain rider. I don't care what the terrain is as long as it's challenging. So fanging down a mountain on a bike, riding sand dunes in the kite buggy punting jumps and riding waves is all the same type of joy for me.

Fishing is my thing and while catching decent fish is a lot of fun my real stoke comes from chasing fish that punish your gear and really test your ability. It's that Old Man and the Sea thing which i think applies to us all in some way or the other? We are chasing something that may never exist and it's just us and the ocean.
I've caught the odd fish here and there but one session really stands out. It was late November a few years ago on the Great Barrier Reef with 2 of the best game fishing captains in Australia and i was trying to climb my Mt Everest. Out go these perfectly rigged baits on 80 and 130lb Tiagras and we drag them around the ocean, hour after hour but gamefishing is like that.. We mark a big girl on the sounder, i jump in the chair, we see something big in the spread and i swear i see bill of a big marlin behind the bait on the long corner when it gets smashed and i'm suddenly standing at the Hillary Step with not 1 but 2 top sherpas guiding the way, could this be the moment i've dreamt of my whole life? A fish so big most people call BS when you say you let it go!
Nope... it was biggest, ugliest barracuda I've ever seen let alone caught, probably close to 28-30kgs but certainly not something to celebrate and the big black swam away to fight another day ![]()
I love to Mtb as well. I have been very lucky with no injuries until recently. I dislocated and smashed my elbow apart and ended up with 5 screws and a plate to put it all back together. Then on my 4th ride back after 9 months off I did exactly the same thing to my other arm! Now I have metal work in both my arms... (well balanced maybe?) After almost two years off I am nearly back to bike fit. I went to Thredbo a few weeks ago, snapped my carbon frame and totalled my bike... but I have no injuries! Happy days. I pick up my new bike on Wednesday. The only thing I can compare it to is a waist deep powder day with blue skies (insert country of choice). My only regret is all the other things I missed out on while I was recovering.
Whatever your sport is just do it for the stoke. Life is too short.
Used to put my 50 year old car round a racetrack for "cruise sessions" as often as I could. Stoke of making it round the track at speed with the brakes still working at the end of a main straight and the tyres not letting go on a corner is right up there with holding the 10m down in 35+kts on Tuesday. Sadly both the engine and the 10m were getting on in years and only $$ available to fix/replace one so the 10m will be entering into it's 9th year of faithful service.

I love how the NT crew get their kicks from alcohol.
Meanwhile the Tassie crew struggle to use the keyboard being stoned.

THaps so NOt tRu
Rockclimbing is my other great love. Totally different vibe to kiting. It's nice when your other stoke takes you to an entirely different, bit equally satisfying headspace. It's refreshing for both. Funnily enough I've never broken anything climbing, just kiting!!

Waaarp!.. still stoked on the mtb. Some worthy jumps this morning.
Nooice!!!!
Surfing
Sailing
Motorbikes trackday style
It's funny how a lot kiters do all three
Oh and snowboarding... but everybody snowboards so that doesn't count
