Haha, wow. Surely not. Half the numbers gone to an already small field of competitors. You'll probably get a medal for just rocking up if you're a female freestyler. The NKL copped a bit of criticism last year but I was hoping for them to implement the riders suggestions for a better tour. Dedicated person on the PA, at least that'll be a good thing...

It is a bummer but logistically it was super difficult for the organisers to host events that needed different conditions at the same location or at two different locations, focussing on one thing well is one of the feedback that came from riders that is being implemented. We will be looking for a host of a national wave event (probably just one stop I imagine though if there is someone motivated to do something else we can talk about that too) next year in the coming months. Let me know if you know anyone who would want to organise by emailing contact@kiteboardingaus.com.au

If ur only running freestyle this year, wouldn't it be better at one of the flatwater spots on the Goldy??

I'm not so sure. He's probably bought more publicity to the NKL than any other rider and they desperately need him competing. He brings excitement, loads of talent and controversy and sport, tv shows etc thrive on that.
You can bet the tennis judges, sponsors and officials think Nick Kyrios is a dickhead but his antics and tantrums bring in far more money into the stadiums than any other current Australian tennis player. In fact most players are completely unknown, no different to most shop sponsored riders really
Just my opinion- Better off having a freestyle comp on the Sunny Coast.
You have 3 amazing 1st class flat water locations with great set ups in anything from the North, anything East and South. (Within 50kms)
And heaps of waves.
