Hi all, I was saddened to read of the events over in the west this week, my sympathy goes out to family and friends of Marc. After reading the postings I thought it was time to post an update on Nic Brunner the Kiter who had a very serious accident at Altona in Vic about 18 months ago. The following is an excerpt from the web site that Nic's family started up when Nic was in a coma.

Edit, sorry again with the right text...

"Hi,

4th of July was the saying goodbye to hospital day, it became a rather emotional end to what I now call one of the best years of my life.

I spoke with a good doctor friend and he filled me in on some me past weeks early in the yearThey had got my future in hospital down to 3 choices, 1. living with brain damage ,2. death or 3. a sort of semi survival, the 3rd they had said was unlikely they all had thought that 1 was the most likely.

Had a great see you party to all my past and present helping staff,it was all rather emotional goodbye and the bonus, with Mark and Alyce musically supporting myself back, even managed to spit out something on the harmonica.

Then the next day armed with some of Nads balls of love and gracious gratitude,I said goodbye to most of my wonderful and oh so special nurses. I realised when you are in bed for a year and get asked about 12 times a day if there is anything I want or need It makes one feel Like a man again a whole lot better and a bit more special , which is perfectly understandble and correct

It certainly was an emotional couple of days to see off that fine year, but now I am into the new NIC university time with a great new physio and some shared muscle pumping with my father.

I am finding concentrating and focusing on more than one thing at a time a bit of a challenge.

I feel at the moment that the past won???t be determining my future. I have been going through a number of past things and seeing what excites and intrigues me still. So far I have found Japan skiing, windsurfing and creating things excites me still, and I heard kite surfing can be life changing??? don???t remember ever trying that.

I look forward to sharing some you time with all of you very soon, unfortunately my resting, healing time limits my you sharing time at the present time.

But please relish my you thought time

Been getting rather mixed reaction to new emotional ways so it???s alright to have a reaction.

Love to ya all yay NIC"

This accident hit closer to home than any of the others as it happened at my local in conditions I normally kite in. I'm really glad Nic pulled through. I went back and read through the original thread when it happened.

Guess it's a good time to highlight that the silly season is coming (seabreezes, new kiters, and crowded beaches) and we should all look out for one another.

Also thinking of buying a helmet.

I appreciate the update and green-thumbed it, but I also feel a bit guilty green thumbing it because I had totally forgotten about Nic. Thanks for the update and reminder Smithy.

I subscribed to Nic's blog updates and followed his long journey to recovery. It is inspiring. I drove past Altona that day and decided not to kite due to gusty conditions and being a bit short of time. It felt like it could have been me.

Greatly relieved he pulled through and is getting on with life. Those around him did a fantastic job caring for him and assisting his recovery.
