Hi All,

I am currently having Kiteboarding lessons and my instructor has older gear which he sells.

I think alot of the gear is outdated and does not have the safety features of newer gear which is of a similiar price as well.

Just after advice as I am new to the sport and what size board and type of kite is best. I am 5ft11inch and 90Kg if that helps.

Cheers

Board is not that important if its new or 2nd hand but kite needs to be a good new kite with maximum depower available for start.
2008-2009 will be easier to sell after you passed this period and cash it up to buy your 2010 kite.

Kite size and board size depends on which state you are living in, in WA I would say 12m with a 135 to 140 board. It will cover you up to 24 knots.

Note: Almost all the new kites are at the same level of safety, for beginners I would suggest a kite with easy water relaunch ability.

spend the money on the kite(s) and buy a 07+ s/hand board. In saying this you dont need to buy new kites, just make sure they are 07-08+
if your 90kgs+ you will need a larger board 138+ with a 12m or so kite.

PT, dont buy that kite. That is a 'C' shaped kite. What u r after is a bow/ or hyrid SLE. there are a plethora too choose from. The only people who still use kites like that Element r kiters with advanced skills. You want a kite with good depower, easy relaunch, wide wind range, and user freindlyness. Your instructor should have gone over this with u. If you r looking for a kite in the $500 range, u should b able to pick up a 2007 model, (generally the newer the better with kites).U may want to spend alittle more 4 quality, say $500-750 for a 12m(about right 4 your size). There r plenty too choose from on this website.

Some kites that would be suitable 4 you include:
Cabrinha: convert,omega, switchblade2/3, crossbow 2/3
naish: boxer sle, cult
slingshot: turbo, rev(stay away from link)
North: rebel
best: waroo
Airrush: Flow
ozone: light, sport

There are plenty more but these listed r all popular and would suit your needs.

4 aboard a twin tip about 135-140 x 39-42 would be about right. Good boards last years, u should be able to pick a decent one up for approx $400-600.

hope this helps. let us know what u end up with.

You will notice a buy and sell tab at the top of your message .Much better option than ebay .BTW that kite on ebay isn't worth any thing like 500 bucks

Forget eBay PT, look at the list of gear recomended above^^^^ go to your local shop (if u have one), or seabreeze buy and sell.

Otherwise you will have to learn the hard way.
