Hey, moving from the UK to Brissy in a few weeks for a job and need some pointers! (I am a beginner-I can go up/down wind, can't turn very well yet)
Wondered where the best spots for beginners are in the region- I hear sandgate is good but not sure? Also, if anyone is in a similar position it'd be awesome to have a buddy on the beach!
Cheers guys,
Kate ![]()
Head to Sandgate/Brighton area as it is flat small chop water and easy for learning.
Unfortunately the season is all but over so it won't be consistently good until around September/October. You may get a day here or there.
There is another place on the south side at Wellington Point which takes W-SW wind (our winter) but It's not great for learning. Gusty, can get really windy, parking is difficult and the local council are idiots so you have to set up on the sand at mid or low tide. It is still worth a look if you are desperate though.
If you have time to travel to north Qld it is the season up there and shallow chop water so good for learning. It's a long way up ~1500km.
Check out the SEQKA website or the local shops and schools for more info.
why is this thread in 2 places its in newbies tips and tricks aswell
ill just post my same reply ![]()
Hey Kate
Sandgate and brighton are pretty good spots for beginners and there is just about always someone else there to give you a hand if ya need it.
At low tide most of the areas in that area are a pain because it feels like kilometre out just to get to the water
and you gotta look out for the sandbanks they creep up on you![]()
Happy kiting might even see you there one day im on a yellow Starkites kite (as shown in my profile picture
Cya then![]()
hey, southside of brissy, wello pt good for all directions but south, thompsons beach at vic pt good for east to south, if your staying up wind you will have no probs, if there is wind on you will always find some other kiters to help.. see ya out there...
