Hey, Just wondering what would be the best spot on the Sunny coast for a Newbie into Kiteboarding to learn at, so I am out of the way of others and can learn at my own pace.![]()
Golden beach is probably the safest, unless the tide is ripping out. Don't go into the channel at maroochydore or bulcock beach, you'll get swept out in no time.
Thanks for your replies!
I have had lessons, but finding it a little chalenging to get up and stay up in light winds. Flying a Cabrinha 12 and I am 97kgs so I need more that 13knts to get up and the winds have been crap lately.
Might have to give lake Weyba a go, sounds ok.
As for Golden Beach, I live there, so it is very convenient to kite there. "BUT" your dead right about the tide ripping out. I got cought out a couple of times last year when I was Winsurfing.
Agree w Weiba - but can be gusty as is fairly small lake (thermals going off up wind).
Lake Cootharaba has most same virtues about 3-4 times bigger.
Both have tree lined shore - both also have xt'sive shallow water so can walk out.
Have seen schools train at both spots.
Last time I went to Elanda point and had a ball - can easily wade out 800+m - the kids loved it.
Make sure you can retrieve from the downwind shore if you are having trouble staying up - very limited access from land.
Agree with Synus - Weyba is very gusty - Cootheraba is worth the
extra drive for you. Boreen Pt council camping ground is the best spot - long
sandy beach for setting up, and you can kite in anything from NE to SE.
Can still be gusty and gets choppy in stronger winds (due to being so
shallow I guess), but tides aren't an issue, and there's heaps of space.![]()
Thanks didi,
Looks like the Council grounds at Boreen pt is where I am heading to next. prob after xmas when the tourists go home tho, lol
