Hi Guys,

I am new to kite boarding and I am looking at getting some gear before I start learning. I am 78 kg and from the Gold Coast.
I have a fair bit of experience flying peels and stunt kites and I'm looking at purchasing a Airush Varial X 10m.

Does anyone have any recommendations.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Darren.

I am not surprised you've had no response 2 hrs after your post Dazza. They are just a dime-a-dozen. And there are several threads lingering about the exact same question - where /how do I start?

Your question is a fair and up-front that most people would ask when they want to start to learn this awesome sport. So that's the first step! Congratulations.

Most people would recommend lessons. And so do I. Have you had one yet? Before you fork out thousands on new gear my best advice, is that you go to Kitepower or Briskites and talk to the friendly people there. You won't regret it.

They do not push any of their products to you or try and convince you one shop is better than the other and all that crap. You will be presented with people that love and have an immense passion for the sport and want to make sure you enter it in the best possible and safest possible way.

Once you've had a chat with them, you will have a much better idea about kites and sizes. Obviously you've done some research and hence why you think the Airrush is the kite for you. Personally, I think that model kite is more for wake riders and you will probably be better off with a more known brand like Ozone, Cabrinha or North. You are right about the sizing though around your weight class. Maybe a 12mt for lighter wind days could be good too.

But like I suggested, talk to the professionals first. It's free and I am sure you'll get a lot more knowledge about what is good gear and what isn't for what you want to achieve, as kite surfing is soooo many different things to everybody.

And above all, get a few lessons as kite control and the safety aspects of all kites is paramount before you even touch the water.

Good luck!

Here is a thought. Try the, wait for it ......."Newbie" ...... thread and maybe....."gear Reviews" as your question may have been asked and answered 100s of times. And then check ......"buy & Sell".......

But my tip is to find the right shop for lessions, and then ask them about what to buy after lessions.
If you like a brand of kite go to the shop that sell that brand, shops will back you up for a long time if you support them.
